The state high school and college basketball coaches are having a hard time to settle disputes over the rules for 1913 and 1914. Only a few change cs have been made, but probably the most Important is that the two cenf eis cannot catch the ball, when jump ing after the referee has tossed it up According to a letter from the rules committee this rule is made clear bv th following "No player In jump ing for the ball after it has been toss- d up by the referee, Is allowed to recover the ball until It has been played by one of his team mates or one of his opponents." Another change in the ruling is that the players In jumping should keep ore hand back of them and face each other. This rule prevents any rough work on the jump and gives an equal chance to both players The above changes are the most important and some of the high school coaches have already started to teach their men to follow out these instructions, but there are s till a few who hold to their old Ideas. The lat ter must get In the swim at once or puffer the ruling of the officials, who now know the true interpretations.
