MUCH CHANGE1N
AMERONGEN. Wednesday, Dec. 18.
The. constant worry of the last five
weeks and his virtual imprisonment in
Count Bentlnck's castlo here have
(Changed William Hohenzollern's ap
pearance considerably. His face has
become ashen, his hair and moustache
gray and his features deeply lined.
Since he has lain abed with his illness
his face has remained unshaven and
the 72 hours' growth of beard seems
to have added ten years to his age.
The ex-emperor's favorite adjutant,
Captain Sigurd von Ilsemann, also is
ill and the former empress has be
come her husband's almost sole at
tendant. No strangers are permitted to en

MARINES ARE NEEDED
UNTIL PEACE SIGNED
Information received by Major Fred
Jorgensen, adjutant general of the na
tional guard of Utah, is to tho effect
that until .tho national emergency is
declared formally.. to have ceased to
exist the navy .department will need
the services of most of the marines
now in service, and there will be no
gonoral demobilization, but such dis
charges as can be effqeted gradually
without impairment to the service will
be granted. , - -
"Headquarters of the United States
marine corps in Washington," Secre
tary Daniels says in a circular letter,
"will entertain requests from individ
ual marines for discharge or orders
to the inactive service lists. Such re
quests must be signed by the individ
ual marine and forwarded through his
commanding officer, and must give
full reasons for the request, supported,
wherever practicable, "with evidence

NATIONAL BOXING COMMISSION SHOULD BE
ORGANIZED j
1
51
tl
3 The need inthe United Slates" for a" national commission to govern
boxing is becoming more glaring every day. unv(na
Now that the war is ended, it Is reasonable to believe that boxing
will have a boom, and that bouts will be staged Involving the titles ol
the champions in tho different divisions
; But without a governing body such as the National Sporting Club
of London, the same evils so prevalent in ring circles in the past, may
be expected to continue. , , I .
The question of class weights and of champions refusing to de
fend their titles are two points that a commission could very well regu
late. Benny Leonard, lightweight, has grown into the welterwoight, and
VUUard cannot be enticed Into championship fights.
