Palm Beach Is without doubt tho harbinger of the warm weather modes. It 13 tho herald of the hats and gowns we will wear In June, July and August. The large left hand figure displays a gown and hat appropriate for smart afternoon wear It In built, on br.oad lines, of taffeta and embroidered tulle, The present predilection for fine old laco , appears In the rolling collar of the wide nock and the close under Bleeves that meet the elbow. The frock has novelty and olegance, yet withal a girl ish simplicity. Tho taffeta forms a one-piece slip. Upon this foundation Is fashioned a wldo, somewhat full bodice with short, tight sleeves. Over tho taffeta slip Is arranged full straight drapery of embroidered not. The silk at the sides Is arranged as a -wide sadb with two loops. The central oval la a larger view of the upper part of tho flguro, showing the details of the hat. The hat which Is a -cousin" to the sailor Is made ot (O 1320. International Fcaturo ScrTice, Inc f Great Britnj tulle with a soft narrow ruching about tho brim. This Is an effect -that is universally becoming. Tho brim Is shorter at the front and back than at tho sides. The long sides drop slightly toward the shoulders, an effect, that is suitable for a tall woman whose twenties arc not a memory too remote. For It is observable even to careless eyes that drooping lines add to the apparent age while the up and away types of hats subtract considerably from the facial record of tho wearer's years. Over the tulle-covered frame chenille is woven in a diamond shaped design. A narrow striped ribbon covers the Jointure of crown and brim. A bit of fur at the front and back prove that memories of Winter persist. Although the same reminders of thoughts of Winter may bo as greatly in evidence next Summer as they were last Summer. A trifle more elaborate Is the second of. the Palm Beach dresses, that shown on the right hand figure. It is of charmouso. The entire gown holds that suggestion of being wrapped around the figure rather than hooked Into it, that , maintains indisputably its favor.. aIt ia luYishlyJ.1! An elaborate shirring finishes the skirt at the hem and is carried to the waist on the ' scantily draped side. The low cut bodice gives the effect of having been wrapped around the flguro. The rounded neck is adorne'd by three rows of slightly gathered tulle. A small bouquet of velvet flowers is worn at the front point of the decolletage. A crush bolt of velvet' is worn at fl the normal waist line. The hat worn with this poetically lovely dinner ' gown is of tulle, so arranged upon a wide, ifreg ular brim as to give a -butterfly effect A survey of the costumes offered and accepted for Palm Beach this Winter reveals ,a marked tendency toward charmouBO and net in fabrics. Rich shades of yellow offer a contrast to white. jH Both are popular tints. Tho skirls are scant or only moderately full.
