The cause of the excitement was
the well defned rumor that Governor

RADIA THOR IS
DISCOVERED BY
DR BAILEY
IT HAS ALL PROPERTIES OF RA
DIUM WITHOUT BAD EFFECTS
It Will Be an Invaluable Addition to
Medical Science for Cure of Can
cer and Tuberculosis of Skin
New Orleans Feb 25At last
nights session of the Southern Homeo
pathic Medical Association Dr B H
Bailey of the Hahnemaun Medical Col
lege Cnlca jj announced the discov
ery of radii thor believed to have
all the properties of radium without I
baneful effects within
Its and to he I
the reach of people of moderate
means It was discovered as being I
maJe from a certain species of pitch
blende of which twenty tons have
been discovered near a Colorado mine I
with much more in sight Dr Bailey
declared that it generates the purple
r ray which Flnsen used so successful
ly in the treatment of lupous
Dr Bailey said that only within the
last week havo his experiments reach
ed a stage where he feels justified in
making public announcement of the
I discovery which he will soon do
Chicago Feb 26Dr F H Black
i mnrr of Hahnemann Medical College
today gave out further details of the
i discovery of radia thor which was
j mule public at Now Orleans yesterday
I by Dr B S Bailey also Hahnemanh
H college s
I One of our most curious experi
ments said
Dr Blackmarr wan the taking of a
photograph through a stove lid on
which some radia thor had been j
spread The power of the rays of this
element enabled tho light to pass
through the iron plato thus permitting
a photograph of a number of pennies
and other articles on the opposite side
Its basis is pitchblende but with
this element are mingled others whose
names 1 dont care to disclose at this
time
Some of them are so precious that
we keep them in a safety deposit
vault The now element while far
from being inexpensive will bo In the
reach of everybody Its action Is
quite as efficacious as that of radium
There is not enough radium in tho
whole world to treat all the people
who need Its curative properties
The therapeutic value of our radia
thor or thoradx has been estab
lished beyond question during tho four
teen months that we have been using
It for tho treatment of disease It
never has failed to give relief and in
many cases It has cured Some of the
diseases on which It acts successfully
are cancer tuberculosis of the skin
ulcers birthmarks and nervous af
fections Its rays are as effective as
those of radium although It does not
act so quickly Its moderate action
keeps It from being harmfully caustic
as radium Is likely to be when in the
hands of unskilled persons It has tho
same relative power as raJIum that
Is It seems to act only on tissues
which are diseased having no effect
on healthy tissues This power which
has been described by Sir Fredk
Treves In a recent article nobody Is
able to explain
Denver Feb 25Pitch blende from
which raJlothor is made Is found In
several sections of Colorado in con
siderable quantities It is an ore that
is mined the same as other minerals
Boulder county in the northeast por
tion of the state and Montezuma coun
ty in the southwestern part have
mines producing pitch blonde that
have been working for several years
The mineral Is a yellowish substance
that greatly resembles sulphur in ap
pearance when ground up

of the fighting Russian Socialists and
later was declared to be In reality a
government spy was delivered by Pre

Premier Stolypin stated that Aze

1S92 l nd that ho established relations
with the main terrorist group in 1902
For several years he had held a sub
ordinate position in the party and was
able to render only minor service to
the government but In 100C he became I
a member of the Socialist central com
mittee and since then ho had kept the
government so well Informed that no
crime of importance had been com
mitted by the main terrorist organiza
tion
Azef was absent from Russia when
Grand Duke Surgis was killed and
therefore was not responsible for the
failure to prevent this crime
A sensation was created by the
speech of M Dulat a laborite who had
Just returned from Paris with docu
ments Including the originals of two
letters dealing with Azofs trial there
by the revolution tribunal Azef In
these letters said he had organized
all the terrorists including the assas

The Socialist Pokroffsky presented
telegrams tending to substantiate the
report of the Moscow police that they
had knowledge beforehand the plot
against Grand Duke Sergius but did
not attempt to prevent it from being
curried out until the last stage
Pokroffsky concluded by warning
Premier Stolypin that he may now ex

met death at the hands of the revolu
