Enlarging of Union Depot and the Building of an Annex Are Pos
sibilities of Near Future Plans For Umbrella
Sheds Have Been Received
By early fall Ogden will have the 1
finest depot grounds and railroad
yard of any In the country I
The above Is the statement made to
a representative of this paper this I
morning by Assistant Engineer A Q
Campbell of the Harriman lines who I
has charge of all the railroad improve
ments in Ogden
Mr Campbell theu stated that
I
with the completion of the new fire
proof freight depot with Its wide
roadways and parks around It the I
parking at the Union depot the um
brella shed cement platforms be
tween track and innumerable other
improvements that will bo made the
depot and yards ttlll not be excelled
by any in the United States I
In addition to the improvements al
neatly ordered by the railroad officials
and of which mention has boon made
It Is probable that the enlarging of
the Union Depot will be ordered be
fore early fall This work for tho
present It is stated would only con
sist of the securing of moro room for
the waiting rooms and the building
of a larger baggage room Both of
these improvements aro urgent
The replacing of the north depot
annex with a large and spacious brick
building the lower floor of which
would be used for a liaggap room and
the upper for railroad offices has been
mentioned as one of the probable Im
provements The using of the south
annex for baggage room purposes and
the providing of new offices for the
aprons companies which also need
more room Is contemplated
The enlarging of the lunch room at
the depot Is also a matter that Is re
colling attention from the railroad of
ficials at tin present Ume This work
will probably bo ordered done at an
earlier dat Chan was at first contem
plated
Before tho end of the week a con
crete miser and a gang of workmen
will commence work at the south end
of the Union Depot grounds upon the
concrete platforms which will be
placed between the ten passenger
tracks As the plnns for the founda
tions df the umbrella sheds hAve been
received by Engineer Campbell the
foundations will be pnt in bytho con
crete gangs when they begin on tho
platforms The first work will bo be
i twoon tho now west tracks and some
r of the old ono which bars been low
ered to the now grade When the

tracks have been lowered to a uniform
grade and tho platforms put in the de
pot grounds will be lu perfect condi
tion for drainage
Until tljo arrival of the steel gird
I ers and beams for the now freight
depot the work upon the main build
Ing will bo
postponed However no
time Is being lost In the work on the
structure for the concrete gangs arc
now preparing for the laying of tho
concrete platforms for the warehouse
and freight sheds The concrete
babes for the transfer platforms on
the west sldo of the depot are being
constructed The driveways around
tho freight houso which will ho of
sandHtono blocks upon a concrete base
are now being put In on the south end
of tho depot
At a very early date the iron fences
and gates enclosing tho passenger
yards will bo built from the Union
depot north to the freight house and
thence u high hoard fence to Twenty
