OPEN DOOR
FOR LOCAL
THEATER
Tho adoption of the open door
policy by John Cort of the North
western Theatrical association means
a great treat for the theatergoers of
Ogden during the coming season Fol
lowing the announcement from New
York that Klaw Erlanger had stated
that none of their attractions would
be booked on the Northwestern cir
cuit of 105 theaters In the west the
Shuberts announced that they to
gether with William Brady Lclbler
company Low Flolds Fred C Whit
ney and Daniel V Arthur would book
their attractions with the Northwest
ern association
John Cort recently adopted the open
door policy for which the Shuberta
have been fighting and which was re
cently adopted by Julius Cahn with
his circuit of two hundred theaters
throughout the New England States
and by M Ries and his circuit of ono
hundred theaters in New York Penn
sylvania Ohio Maryland and Now
Jersey
By the new agreement between Mr
Cort and tho Shubort8 nnd their alllos
thirty firstclass httractlons are to
bc supplied for the circuit and all
will move toward the Pacific coa t
at once The attractions will play
the Ogden theater and the Colonial I
theater In Salt Lake City
This IR the first time in years that
tho Independents havo been in a po
sition to send attractions all through
the United States It means that it
Is no longer possible for tho theatrical
syndicate or the Klaw l Erlangor
hooking agencies to dictate to the
managers what attractions and on
J
what percentage attractions shall ap
pear at their houses Through their
opposition to the opendoor policy K
E have now placed themselves In
a position of not finding room for
hhelr attractions in the circuits men
tioned and their activity In the fu
ture It Is stated will be confined
during the next season to week stands
In which they have hooking contracts
