How Our Clerks
I Are Treated
As the representative stoic
of Ogden we feel that some re
ply is duo the writers of n let
ter which recently appeared in
the daily pipcrs and contain
ed a reference to the SNits pro
vided for clerks in si ores gen
eral ly and also to imposing up
on them useless tasks
While we cannot speak for
stores generally and we have
no disposition to dcnN the
statement as applied to stores
generally we do wish to make
the following observations con
cerning our store since ve are
naturally thoroughly conver
sant with conditions which ex I
iht here
SEATS ARE PROVIDED
In all departments two kinds
of seats are provided One is
a special eounter seat attached
to the furniture it can be lilt
ed to a horixontnl position for
use or dropped flat against the
counter when not in use Small
benches arc also found in near
ly all departments these are
provided primarily to assist in
reaching objects on the high
er shelves hut are also used us
seats whenever the employes
desire to use them We do no
tell our people when thojy sluill
or shall not sit but allow them
lo do so whenever they Lel
disposed to do so nnn we have
never found this privilege
abused
AS USELESS TASKS
Our store is strictly depart
nientized That is the girls

that those who have charge of

TIME GIVEN TO CLERKS
I A rule is in force which pro
vides the clerks with time to
perform the duties which lake
them out of the store one
hour usually in the morning

for any clerk who murcly asks
the person in charge of Ihe de

PURE AIR
Not being content with the
ordinary means of ventilation
we have installed for the good
health of our people electric
air purifiers These expensive
machines continually consume
foul air and transform it into j
pure air just as the lightning
flash does on the air surround
ing the earth
DAYLIGHT STORE
We believe that those who
sell goods as well as those who
buv should have the linuuiit iif
Rood light and for thru reason we
have Installed on nil sides of our
store expensive prismatic glass
which reflects light and are ro
sponslhlo for our having one of
the hest lighted stores In the Unit
