Suit for damages to the extent of $10,009, foV alleged libel, is to l>e filed in the Circuit Court of Wood ' county by Attorney L. R. Via, on behalf of Rev. Sam Rettes, against Attorneys James A. Watson and J. D. Cutlip, bondsmen for Malissa Holt Parker. The attorneys went on the Parker woman's bond at the time when el if? caused an attachment to be issued against the "Cowboy Preacher's'' Gospel Yacht. They arranged bond for her in the penalty of $10,000. Since then she has signed a state ment, alleging that she was dmwii into a conspiracy, and that the charge of seduction she brought against Rettes was without founda tion and was brought to swindle him, and to gain possession of his boat. Rettes declares that he would have brought no suit for defamation of character if the yacht has been sur rendered to him after the woman made the confession, but instead lie says it has been held arbitrarily. "Now I am going to liave 6uit brought for the full amount of the !>ond and F am going to prosecute it to a finish," he declares. SWEET MELODY FL0DR. MR. RUDD A SLEUTH. A. C. Rudd lias been along the West Virginia & Pittsburg railroad as far as Pickens on a diligent hunt for a fine Lancaster black and tan dog owned by T. A. Henagban. which strayed from his kennel a few days ago. Mr. Rudd displayed Sherlock Holmes qualities to a very large degree but did not succeed ill recovering the dog, but he did get enough trace of him at Pickens to know that ho is still in Clarksburg. Torrent* Gilverry was arrested at 7:30 o'clock Thursday night at the Imperial saloon by Policeman Fox and jailed. He is suspected of be ing the burglar who entered the Catholic church a week or so ago and stole a valuable church vessel that was presented to tlie church yeara ago by the late Rev. Daniel O'Con nor. The man formerly worked at tlV chtireh as a sort of janitor, but has been out of the city ever since the burglary occurred. It is stated that he remained at Ocean mines until Thursday, when he returned to the city and was nabbed by the po lice. lie refuse? to say any thing about himself and it is doubtful whether there is sufficient evidence lo convict him. Unless something develops in the case, it is probable lie will be turned loose withftut a trial. He is the same fellow who was arrested several weeks ago for swiping shoes from Mcraman's <tore.
