West Virginia i^J'ogressixe. *11 H) REWARD FOR EVIDENCE LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF ANYONE GUILTY OF VIOLATING ELECTION LAWS NOVEMBER During the last two general elections held in Cabell county fraud was freely charged and conclusive evidence placed in the hands of the proper authorities. For some mysterious reason these charges were never investigated, and the evidence furnished was completely ignored. This paper and the forces back of it are determined that this shall not occur again. The antiquated election iaws ot West Virginia, which do not permit a general representa tion of the citizenship to oversee balloting and the counting of votes, places the suffrage of the voter wholly at the mercy of the proiessional political clique. Buying and selling of v.-ies was openly carried on by representatives of both the oi.i parties as alleged in the information above; ollice holders and their hangers-on brazenly trampled upon the most sacivd guarantees of popular liberties; city oflicials violated the sanciiiy of the polling piaces. and it is strongly asserted that the votes of the unrepresented parties were disposed of to the best advantage of the two dominant parties. In the city of Huntington alone there are 600 members of he Socialist party; on the other hand there are hundreds of Socialists and sympathizers who do not join the organiza tion. in addition to this there will be a tremendous increase of Socialistic sentiment expressed at the polls this fall. The purpose of this exposition of our strength is to show that .">.000 votes in Cabell county is a very conservative es timate of the Socialist vote that will be cast on November Socialist watchers will be at the polls to gather the most accurate data possible concerning the, vote of the workers; i? i we also want the assistance of every right-minded citi zen in our effort to give this county a clean, decent election. All men and women interested in safeguarding popular ! liberty and in honest elections are requested to meet at the [oilier of t lie Labor Star on the Fridav night before election ijday.
