Quiet Day With Sheriff —The offi cers of the sheriff’s department report a quiet Sunday yesterday with no ar rests for violations of the Sunday closing law. Dr. Ferdinand P. Herff has re turned to the city. Dr. Amos Graves Jr., who has been in Chicago the last three weeks, fol lowing the clinics of Dr. Murphy, will return home by Saturday, Sept. 16. Fire in Negro’s Cottage—Fire par tially destroyed a three-room cottage, 705 Lopez street, occupied by George Haywood, a negro, at 8:30 o'clock last night. The house was valued at 1600. The damage is estimated at 1200. A still alarm sounded at 7:55 o'clock Sunday morning called the hose wagon from company No. 2 to the rear of the blacksmith shop of Seffel & Son. Kansas & Texas railroad, the Katy Flyer, due to ar rive in the city at 7:30 o’clock this morning, was six hours late. Other trains of that road were delayed for the same cause. The extent of the damage occasioned by the floods could not be learned at the local offices. Will Adopt By-Laws—For the pur pose of discussing and adopting by laws and resolutions for the govern ment of company No. 4, Uniform Rank, Knights of Pythias, and to go through their first company drill, the members of that organization will hold a meeting at their headquarters next Wednesday night.
