The secretary then read a vote of thanks to be tendered Regent Crocker for his generous offer to contribute the expenses of the expedition to India to witness the total solar eclipse that will take place in 1898. Following is the text of the resolution: Whereas, C. F. Resolved, That Professor Campbell is hereby authorized to proceed, without loss of salary, to India on or about October 20,1897, to es tablish an eclipse station, returning to Mount Hamilton on or before June 1, 1898. After some discussion regrading the matter of printing 2500 copies of the "an nouncement of courses," whicn some three weeks ago had been awarded to the Pacific Press Publishing Company of Oak land and subsequently rescined, it was upon motion decided to bestow the work upon the State Pi inter who had offered to do the work at actual cost, and the finance committee was instructed to draw and forward to State Printer Johnston the amount necessary to complete the work. Tbe amount standing to the credit of the Whiting fund, which by reason of tbe inheritance tax had become slightly deplet. d, was ordered restored to its orig inal amount by appropriating the differ ence from the current income fund. Alter approving the action of the build ing committee in accepting the assign ment of Contractor Campbell to Contractor Carl-'y for the construction of the agri cultural building and authorizing the sale of 2081 acres of land in Kern County be longing to the university for $2914, the board adjourned.
