NEW YORK, N. V., July 27— Sliver was lower to-day than ever before. Until the decline of re cent date the lowest prices were those of March 3 and 5, 1891, at ihe time of the * losing of the In dian mints. The opening quotations to-day were: Bar si.ver, 5814 c; Mexican dollars, 47% c, and the closing 58V4C ami 4514' , respectively. T c local dealers can assign no other reason than lack of demand. There being no special orders for sil ver ior any European couniry for mintage and India not being in the market, the/ regard the f 11 as natural. - \ . \ The Evening Post's London financial cablegram i to-day has the foi, owing: "The fall in silver ls j exciting much Interest. CHICAGO MARKETS. CHICAGO. lit. July 27. — Provisions I were lower to day in spite of the advance in hog prices at the yards and smaller receipts. Trading was only moderately active and local traders liqui dated holdings. Prices rallied slightly on the cov ering of shorts and some buying by commission houses together with continuation of goo demand for cash meats. The cattle market aud ihe senti ment of tra-le generally was rather more in favor ot the seller than on any ordin ry Tuesday. here was no i articular rush for fat ca tie and no essen tial change in prices. All kind of butchers' stock sold stea.iy and prime cows and heifers at ou of sight prices. Beceipts of calves were light, only 800 posted and no particular change In prices. in hogs trade was active from the first to last with prices a good 5c higher on all the big pur chases and plenty of individual lots 10c higher, the strongest prices being toward the close. The sheep business was fairy go, with prices somewhat irregular on range sheep, aDd other grades a shade lower. Grain.
