The unusual sc«jne of mourners at a funeral digging the grave of lhe one to be interred was witnessed a few uays since at a private burying ground on Lick R;in, near tne Poites's field. The funeral was a Jewish one, and ;ho remains to ba interred were those of Mrs. Levine, who nine originally from Spnn ,'lield, Ohio, but wiio Had lately iivei in Newport. It seen)* that Mr. Levine had represented to the otiicials in charge of the cemetery that he was in very poor circumstances, and had thus secured a burial at lhe lowest possible figure. When the funeral corteso arrived at the cemetery the mourners were -urprised to learn that the grave had been duz only one foot. It sepms that there had been some hitch in the proceedings. The sexton said he had orders not to proceed with rue work until instructed by ihe proper official to do so. The excited mourners waited but a very short while, and tberi, securing picks and shovels, they began throwing the earth out of the grave in every direction. The spxtnn watched the job complacently until he saw that the earth was being scattered so that it could not be used aenin. He then offered to finish the job, find the mourners climbed out of the pit.— Cincinnati Enquirer.
