Hence the broadening out into cjunrtcts arid sextets, etc., ad libi tum. This marks the evolution of, for cx« amp!*?, the Florodora sextet — which ev erybody knows better than' the whole op era of the same name and the principals rolled Into one. The Florodora sextet-six charming maidens all dressed alike, with flowing gowns nnd waving hat plumes and mas culine attendance to add piquancy, and all lust a dozen times the hit .that one rirl might have made according to the lights of those "good old days." "The Strollers" carries out the same Idea of the new regime; also "King , Dodo," for example, which Is familiar to us by recent performance. And now it la the "Sadie Girls," on the same principle of multiplication; and, moreover, with tho charming, piquant, Frenchy Anna Held as the bright particular star-dia mond to set off this galaxy of feminine pearls. Why are they called the "Sadie GlrlsT* Because that is the name of tlie song where they Bhlne with particular bril liancy. The fair Anna sings the air. They sins the chorus. And all of this time with the ncw-re glme-multlpllcatlon system they enforce the words of the song by exactness and similarity of gesture and pose. One of the most effective . bits j Is said to be where, In a part of the chorus, they turn their backs with haughty disdain on the audience, as you see In the picture— then is the time that you awaken to the fact that the "Sadie Girls" wear no ordinary gowns, but are clad in Parisian creations to the extent of some three thousand dol lars for thirteen dresses. This is another fad of up-to-date managerial policy ot the new regime as contrasted with the old. And now the question still remains! V^ll San Francisco afford the fair Anna two "Sadie Girls" for the thirteenth, who Is missing, and the twelfth, who is to be married. That Is yet to be seen— as Well as the "Sadie Girls" themselves. .;i.S -^ There are perlumes that do not coat a great deal and one of these Is suitable for' use as a chair sachet Take of rlyc erlne hair a 'eospoonf ul and add to It * quarter of an ounce of oil of geranium. The "Sadie Girls' " arms and shoulders are very much In evidence, as you can see from the photoirraphs; bo no wonder Miss Held is Inexorable on the matter . of proper proportions. For that matter, the fair Anna ha* been so severe a critic that it has taxed the beauty providing qualities of the larg est Eastern cities to the utmost to sup ply even those twelve of the possible thirteen "Sadie Girls." Every one of the twelve girls now In •The Little Duchess"— for that is the name of Miss Held's musical comedy was found in a different city of the great East; and as the picture, shows there are -only twelve where there should be thirteen, the East evidently did not offer enough cities with available material suf ficient to supply' the thirteenth. Moreover, and here Is another hint In Just a wlilpper, O ye maidens who would be "Sadie Girls'* If you could— one of these twelve- picked maidens of the num ber, that should be thirteen, la to be mar ried 'ere long, and now it 13 for San Fran cisco to demonstrate herself par excel lence in the matter of beauty and furnish that thirteenth, whp is missing, and also that twelfth, who is to be married; thus providing two "Sadie Girls" where other cities have afforded but one and most of them none, .. • How the old lde> of the chorus has changed!
