Many snow and land slides have occurred In the mountain dis tricts, doing much damage to railroads and mining property, but so far as known causing no loss of life. A special to the Republican from Buena Vista, Colo., says a Denver and Rio Grande passenger train ran Into a rock slide one mile from Arena Station, in Browns Canyon, about ten mile3 north of Salida. at about 6:30 this evening and the engine and baggage car were derailed. The engineer and baggageman were hurt, but the passengers escaped injury. It is thought the road will be blocked for twelve hours. The Colorado and Southern's Gunnlson line is blocked by several snowslides and the Alpine tunnel is closed. A special to the Republican from Du rango, Colo., says the Denver and Rio Grande passenger train from Denver, due in Durango last night, was stopped at Pa gosa Junction by a washout a quarter of a mile long. The passengers and malls were transferred this morning and reached Durango to-night. Another train is stuck in the snow at Cumbres Pasa. The Rio Grande Southern is blockaded by snowslides in the vicinity of Ophir. No trains have been run over that part of the line for two days. McGlynn Demands Pay. Peter J. McGlynn, former president and manager for Flores, Hale & Co., filed a suit - yesterday for S14.6S7 50 for services against the company. Ho alleges that from May, 1833. to March of this year he rendered aid to it,' for which he received no pay. TO SAIL. Steamer. Destination. Sails. I*ier. April 3. San Pedro.. Humboldt 4 pm Pirr 2 R. Now, according to the reports received by the Rahane and Invermark, a quantity of wreckage and new lumber is drifting southwest of Cape Flattery". Captain Scott of the Rahane said: "We passed a quantity of wreckage. It Included the mast partners of some sail ing vessel, several spars with bolts at tached, a beam and a small amount of lumber.. It was sighted about 150 miles southwest of Flattery." VICTORIA, B. C, April 2.— Further evi dence of disaster having befallen one of the lumber carriers from Puget Sound was received from the ships Rahanc and In vermark. which arrived yesterday, the former from Liverpool and the latter from Callao. Lincoln, Miss Medora Block, Miss Alma Mitchell, Mrs. L. S. Adams, James G. Boobar and wife. James Dickie, W. B. Collier, Elwood Boobar and Lieutenant Overton, U. S. A. The Grampus will to-day receive her first standardizing and submarine trials and if these are successful the torpedo firing from both boats will take place Frl dav. . fourth time column gives the last tide of tho day, except when there are but three tides, as semi-times occurs. The heights given ar« in addition to the soundings of the United State* Coaet Survey Charts, except when a minus ( — ) sign precedes the height, and then the number given Is subtracted from the depth given by the charts. The plane of reference is the mean or the lower low waters. Late in the afternoon the awash trials took place, when she succeeded in mak ing seven and one-half knots, exceeding the Government requirements, by half a knot. While the Pike exceeded the contract requirements as to speed on her sub merged run, the trials will have to be re peated, as the shore signal officers had difficulty in sighting the flag on her bow. Captain P. T. Cabel was in command. Ho stated that although they were in the hold, and practically submerged for two hours and forty minutes, they suffered not the slightest inconvenience in any way. The air was fresh and pure, the tempera ture low and the boat steady. When she took the dive it gave one the same sen sation as a dip when a cable car starts down one of our steepest grades. Just as she approached the stake mark she suddenly made a dive at an angle of about 10 degrees and was out of sight, with only the flag to indicate her position. Not even a ripple or a bubble appeared upon the surface of the water, although her electric motor was pushing her for ward at the rate of six knots an hour, that being the lowest speed at which she is handled to the best advantage when submerged. Her runs included three double half miles, both with and against the tide. At the end of her x first half she came up to the surface like a duck, took her bearings, made a turn, took a dive and started on her return trip. At one period for several minutes she dropped so low that even her flag disappeared. At the conclusion of the first test she returned to her moorings, where her su perstructure was replaced preparatory to her awash trial. She was manned by the same crew as on her initial trial, 'with the addition of the Government representa tives. Lieutenant Commander George H. Stafford and Assistant Naval Constructor S. S. Adams. * After these preliminaries the word was given to go. The diving trial came first. The Pike appeared stripped of all her su perstructural deck, Including ventilating tubes, masts and hand rails. The only thing rising above the deck was a twelve foot diving mast to which was attached a small red and white flag. She came out light and at once com menced trimming. Inside of fifteen- min utes her ballast, torpedo compensating, midphip, forward and after and auxiliary tanks were filled with water, which caused her to sink, leaving only her conning tower visible. The second day of the official trials of. the new submarine torpedo boats was de voted entirely to the Pike. Conditions were favorable in every way, the weather being clear and the waters of 'the bay smooth and the wind light. The same course was used as on the preceding day. The start was delayed by two small schooners which attempted to sail directly across the course. Those on the tug in attendance used persuasive eloquence on one and the other, the George Washing ton, was hauled off the course. She Shows to Advantage in Speed Tests and Sub marine Runs.
