HONOLULU, April 28.— The Legislature has passed and sent to the Governor a bill providing for a put>lic loan of $3,000,000. This sum is to be spent in public works. It is proposed to issue bonds annually for the full amount allowed by the organic act. *• Provides for a Public Loan. The Costellos have been separated for several years, during which time they have been engaged in litigation and car ried on open domestic warfare.' Mrs. Cos tello has made numerous attempts to gain possession of her children and charges of attempted kidnaping have been made against her. Owing to Coetello's wealth and wide business -interests their family troubles were given much publicity. "It is hard t<Asay just how serious the wound is," said one of tnem. "It may be fatal, but the chances are in favor of recovery. Costello Is resting easy to night." Costello is one of the best known and wealthiest men in Buffalo. He made a fortune in the lumber business in Penn sylvania and has extensive copper min ing interests in the West. He is also interested in a large number of corpora tions. BUFFALO, May 4.— John H. Costello, mining operator and oil man, with offices In the Prudential building,, was shot by his wife to-day. Two shots were fired. One took effect in the right shoulder.
