CHICAGO., May 4.— Selling by pit traders ; caused weakness in wheat soon after tlie open ing, which was a shade lower to a shade high er for July at 71>4c to 71 Vic but there was sufficient scattered demand by shorts and com mission houses to check the decline- in a meas ure, and, after selling down to 724c, July closed %c lower at 724®72%c. The impres sion that Armour was selling through brokers, although an open buyer of July, together with numerous no-damage reports, brought about the rush to sell. Receipts were a little larger and weather reports improved, and these also had their influence. Primary r oeipts were 629,643 bushel?, against 433,7<i'J bushels a year ago Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 464,500 bushels. Corn was weak and slow with local bears, the principal sellers and commission houses do ing the buying. July closed %®%c lower at 44%c after ranging between 45%c and 444e. The better weather induced selling by local longs in oats, and as a result the market ] showed weakness, with prices lower. Ju'.y ' closed %S";4c lower at 314@31%c after selling off from o2?ic to 31 lie. The. action of May pork unsettled provisions and bothered the trade. Prices on other pro ducts were about Fteady and show an advancing tendency. Packers are credited with buying ' pork for future delivery and July showed an advance of 7ijc at the close. Covering ' by shorts at the start caused an advance of 25c to 7f>c in May. the opening price being- $18 50 to $1». Realizing later caused a decline from the high figure and the close was 35c higher at $18 60. July lard was 5@"4c lower, while ribs were oft lY 3 c.
