Late Shipping Intelligence LONDON, July 19.— In the House of Lords this afternoon Earl Grey (di rector of the British South African Company), brought up the question of American and British freights to South Africa. He complained bitterly of the discrepancy in favor of New York and pointed out that under the existing system the proportion of manufactured foodstuffs shipped from New York to South Africa was steadily increasing. The Earl strongly condemned the re bate system and urged the Government to co-operate with the various colonial Governments with the object of form ing an independent shipping combina tion which would secure 10 British shippers the advantage now enjoyed by Americans. Earl Grey Complains of New York's Advantage In Shipping to South Africa. EXPORTS OF AMERICANS WORRY THE ENGLISHMEN Major General Lord Dundonald, the former commander of the militia of Canada, was recently dismissed by the Dominion Government for indiscretion and insubordination, as it was termed, as shown in a speech in Montreal, June 23, when he said he regretted that poli tics had entered into Dominion mili tary affairs, as it would be impossible for Canada to have an efficient soldiery under such circumstances. LONDON, July 19.— In the House of Commons to-day David Lloyd-George (Welsh Nationalist) moved an ad journment of the House to call atten tion to "Lord Dundonald's participa tion in political agitation against the Government of Canada" while still an officer in the British army. Lloyd- George wanted the Government to rep rimand Lord Dundonald. Winston Churchill seconded the mo tion that Lord Dundonald ousht to have been recalled. » War Secretary Arnold Forster, on behalf of the Government, deprecated the raisins of the question, especially as the Canadian Government had not mentioned the subject and was well able to take care of itself. Nobody, he said, had suggested /that Lord Dun donald was guilty of anything beyond want of judgment and he declined to express an opinion on the matter until Lord Dundonald, who had been re quested to return home, had been heard in his own defense. The will of the late John Sroufe was read yesterday at the family resi dence, 1160 Page street. The entire estate was left unconditionally to the testator's wife, Mrs. Zelda Sroufe. The will contained no other be quests and granted full powers to hla helpmate, who had for fifty-four years been the sharer of his joys and sor rows. In the will Mr. Sroufe said that he purposely omitted bequests to his daughters, Mrs. J. F. Merrill, Mrs. J. R. Loosley, Mrs. W. Z. Tiffany and Mrs. Germona Cippolloni. for the rea son that he knew his wife would treat them all justly. A request was made that his widowed sister, Mrs. Pauline McGuire, now living at French Gulch, in Trinity County, should be provided for during her life. Their father's disposition of hl» property met with the entire ap proval of the four daughters, who were all present when the will was opened- The estate is reported to ba valued at about $500,000.
