SHOWS,EVIDENCE OF CONTACT WITH SHOALS ——. i Will Cost $15,000 to Fit Her For Sea The steam schooner Lakme as she lies in*he big- drydock at Hunters Point is a sorry looking spectacle. Her keel is smashed, her rudder Dost is broken, she has two great holes In her** starboard side, her propel ler is twisted and altogether she is one of the most demoralized looking objects that has ever been towed Into this port, t As soon as she arrived here she was towed up to Hunters Point and an attempt was made to put her into the small drydock. As she was drawing twenty-five feet this was found impossible, so the big dock was opened up and the practically sub merged vessel was floated in there. In this dock, which is 760 feet long, she occupies but a little corner. Captain A. F. Pillsbury, surveyor for the San Francisco board of underwriters, made an examination yesterday. He thinks the cost of repairing the vessel will be about $15,000. Her valuation is placed at about $30,000. When she left Eureka she had a cargo of about 600,000 feet of lumber stored on her decks and in her hold. The first great sea that washed over her after she bumped over the shoals at the Eureka bar washed away her whole deckload. When she got out Into the open In her practically dis mantled condition the seas thundered away upon her decks until they dis lodged her hatches, and the lumber and shingles began floating out Into the sea. Out of the original cargo of 600,000 feet of lumber that she started with but 100,000 feet remain in her hold. Her troubles did not end with her arrival at the drydock. She had barely floated In and was about settling down to the blocks, which were being adjusted by Diver Abrahamson, when she suddenly toppled over to one side. The dock was again flooded, and she was riarhted. Catches Foot in Cartrack. H. A. Parker was landed at the Harbor Hospital at 3 o'clock yesterday morning with both bones of hia right leg broken. How it happened he was not exactly sure, but he said he thought he caught his foot in the street ear track, which threw him down to the pavement. He said he was a prominent member of the Foresters. Later, at his request, he was taken to the City and County Hospital. Overdues.
