NEWS OF THE LABOR WORLD O. M. BOYLE \u25a0 TVhen the Labor Council meets, this rventng; the newly elected president, George W, Bell, will assume • office. Bell defeated A.. J. Gallagher for : the office in a. spirited contest last week, and enters upon his arduous duties with the best-wishes 'of everybody in \u25a0 the labor movement, his \u25a0 opponent amongrthe rest. Bell is the business agent of Gas Workers' Union No. t»S4I. and has been identified with that organization almost from Its incep tion. In addition to being business atent. he has filled the positions of trustee and member of the executive committee. Besides this, he represents the District Council of Gas Workers. Bell has. been a delegate to the Labor Council for: the last four years, dur ing which time he has been vice pres ident/or one term, a member of the executive r committee for two years, -and .was also .a member of the build- Ing- committee which gave to the trade unionists of the city the magnificent temple on Fourteenth street, near Mis sion. Before coming to Pan Francisco Bell was* in- the gas business in San Jose. He also spent several years prospecting In Alaska and the North western Territory.: Six months ago he ran a. very close race for the pres idency of the: council with W. R.
