"Un til recently I was somewhat, in doubt as to the result of development at depth. I feared that it might be a case of surface enrichment/; only, but we have found that;; their Value increases with depth and that (the broken con dition of the ledges ?near the surface gave way with- little" depth, showing everything In place. The values at the 110-foot level in the Sphinx are 50 per cent better than at a depth of 65 feet and everything* points to permanency." . '■_. .■„■ - . GOLDFIELD, Feb. 21.;— 1n the eastern part of the,Goldrield district, near the Wild Horse Springs and Red Mountain, an amount of mining activity .is under way which equals anything in this section. The surface Indications there are even better, than In the neighbor hood of the great Mohawk and other mines more centrally located, .and the ledges are of greater size and con tinuity. Tho Rhay property of twenty five claims, the Lob Angeles • Frank McDonald Company' with eighteen claims, the Nancy Donaldsbn, Red Boy, Black Bird. Goldfleld, Hercules, New Jersey Goldflejd, Overfleld Goldfield, Eddie Goldfleld, Happy Hunch -dnd others. Including the Lucky Star, back of which are the Alaska Treadwell, Gould- people, are all sinking or pros pecting .on a large 1 scale. The Big Ledge group, adjoining the Hercules and near the Nancy Donaldson, has just been sold by R. L,. Ritchie," who has had the property under option, ' to Wealthy New York operators. A town site will- be established below the springs. GOLDFIELD IS DESCRIBED Comprehensive View nf Aohtevementii and Cojiditinnn Is Publlstied The second annual edition of the Goldfleld News furnishes a comprehen sive review of the Goldfleld mining dis trict. Many facts are .given, sufficient for the general Information of all con cerned about Goldfield mining. There are special articles by Judge J. W. Deane, Walter Prescott and others, sketches of the men who are prominent in development of the mining industry and a great variety of pictures illus trative of scenes .in the' great gold region of Nevada. The whole constitutes what 'might be termed fairly an encyclopedia of Gold field's marvelous progress to date. The number is handsomely made up in all regards. SUXRISE CLAIM? ARE SOLD Uonehud Property- That Adjoins Potr- liutan Ik Purchased GOLDFIELD, Feb. 21.— The Sunrise group of claims adjoining the Pow hatan at Rosebud, which has become famous on account of the .rich \ sur face shewing;, has', been: purchased by Dave Kennedy^ and brother of Goldfleld for. $12,000. Kennedy and Ms brother, who were already Interested in the dis trict, are experienced: minlngmen. The fact that they paid such a price for a mere prospect upon -which only the location work had been performed, speaks well for the district .and the ground Involved. The Sunrise group is a near neighbor of the Brown Palace and Dreamland, two mines which have attracted attention to the Rosebud country.
