Steamship Korea BririgsMany Japanese
Coolies Bound for Vancouver-
t JL Pacific M»" »ncr Korea, Captain
Landberg. arrived early yesterday
Jh»« r«|- r ° m thC ° rient with more
than 800 passengers and 5416 tons of
cargo. The latter included 476 bales
or raw silk.
The Korea brought . only six Jap
anese for this port. In addition to this
half-dozen were 295 little brown men
wnose destination is Vancouver. The
liner landed 400 Japanese coolies at
Honolulu. The 617 steerage passengers
Included Chinese. Japanese, Sikhs and
seven Cossacks. These Cossacks were
soldiers in the Czar's service, but have
come to the land of the free to pursue
their several trades. One of them is a
blacksmith and three of them are Jew
elers. One of the latter wears his stock
In trade In email metal vials which
he carries in the pockets made origin
ally for cartridges.
Th© star cabin passenger on the Ko
rea was Carlton H. Wall, who made
the round trip on the liner for his
health. Wall was the victim of an ;
automobile accident In which he was
seriously injured, as also were his
guests, Judge and Mrs.. Harry Melvin
and State Senator ,Russ Lukens. Al
though all were badly hurt they recov
ered and this fact appears to give Wall
more Joy than does his own glowing
health. He has taken his last auto
mobile ride, he said yesterday.
Tve been in two bad spills. I'm
going to take no chances on thja third."
is the conclusion he has reached.
Senator Lukens and a large party of
Wall's friends boarded the liner at
Quarantine, but found difficulty in
greeting him for the reason that nearly
every passenger wanted to shake hands
with Wall and tell him how the parting
was regretted- Wall owned the ship.
He was not particularly gay when he
boarded the liner, but as his health im
proved bis spirits rose and he began
to enjoy himself. He inspired enter
tainments, invented new games and
planned harmless practical jokes in an
endless round. He said yesterday that
he had the time of his life and he
looked as if It; had agreed with him.
G. L. Sessions accompanied Wall on
his travels.
Captain H. Rodman. U. -S. X., who
for two years commanded the navy tug
Iroquois at Honolulu and who has been
traveling In the Orient with Mrs.. Rod
man, was a passenger on the liner.
Rear Admiral Brownson, who has been
in command of the cruiser squadron
on the Asiatic station, is coming home
on the Siberia to take his new billet
as Chief of the Bureau of Navigation.
Another passenger on the Korea was
W. E. Pulliam,,who has been in charge
of the Philippine customs and who is
on his ~ way to San Domingo to . take
charge of the customs there.
The Korea encountered heavy
weather after leaving Yokohama. Sev
eral big seas were shipped, one of the
waves knocking down a sailor, who
sustained several severe lacerations in
his efforts to escape being swept over
board.- " ,
