Sev eral acts of. violence were committed, the most dastardly being an attack on A. Mordical, a time keeper in the em ploy of the United Railroads, at Four teenth and Mission streets, a few feet from the labor temple, where President Cornelias and the executive committsa of the carmen's union have their head quarters. The victim of the lawless clement had to plead. with the howling mob of assailants for his life. As It was, Mordical was tieaten into an un conscious state by the murderous sang. At the office of the general manager of the United Railroads last night few .' other cases of rowdyism were reported. ! The list of the day's casualties was i Ftnall and the attacks made on cars i were sporadic. A revolver was dls ; charged at a Ilaipht street car from a : building in Market street near Sixth, but the bullet did not strike the target. An airgun was fired from the window of a residence in Mission street, be , twi'en Fourteenth and Fifteenth, but no one was injured. In neither case xvas any arrest made. Today the lines \u25a0which were operated yesterday will be continued, and traf : lie will be opened on the "loop" line, ! •which runs from the Chutes to Fillmore t street over Fulton, Stanyan, Hayes, . 3>evif;adero and Turk, returning over ; O'Farrell and Devlsadero. This . line i runs in Fillmore street for three blofks fand its cars will be the first to operate ieven to that extent in the retail center of the uptown disrict- . "** MOB IS MURDEROUS The attack on Mordical occurred late In the afternoon. He alighted from a Mission strert car at Fourteenth and was immediately surrounded by a gang" of striking carmen and hoodlums who were loitering near the labor temple, iseelns the belligerent attitude of the 4 men Mordical dodged into a saloon and was followed by the crowd, which threatened his life because he had ridden- on the car. The time keeper was into a rear* room of the ealoon, where he begged for his life and explained that lie was a' railroad employe. But the gang would not be appeased and stood ready, to rush on its victim when he was slipped from the room by. a friend who hurried him away in a wagon. The mob was not to be cheated of Its prey and gave pursuit. Mordlcai was caught again, beaten senseless and left in the street, bleeding and unconscious. No one came to his aid. and when later he regained his faculties he made his way to his home in Devis&dero street, where he is now confined to bis bed." . D.
