Sports Three Favorites Bring Down Long Ends of Purses at Emeryville Track YESTERDAY'S WINNERS ■ Beat Hone. Jockey. Price. Albion H...SandyH ...Sandy 4-1 N'edda .80w1.....'. .15-1 Prank Flittner. ..Wi150n..... 5-2 Elevation /. Da>1i...... 9-2 BlasrK Graham.... 9-5 Sir BrUlar. Graham.... 1-1 J. R. Jeffery The horses ran well to form at Emeryville yesterday and the public managed to pick some winners. Favor ites captured half the card and only one cfutslder figured in the list of winners. Jockey Graham came Into the limelight with two winning mounts . . Albion H, with Sandy In the saddle, scored easily In the opening race, a four and a half furlong dash for 2 year old fillies. It was a moderate lot with which she was running, and .when Katie Rains, the favorite, finding the route too far, stopped at the pad dock. Albion H took the lead and reached the wire far in front of her field. Alice F, & filly owned by "W. P. Magrane and Joe Trlgue and starting for the first time was as easily second. She had been backed down to 12 from 15 by smart players who had been im pressed with her work in preparation for the race. Saucy M came along In time to take show honors from the tiring favorite. Sadie H, heavily played, failed to show anything. Nedda and Furze, two 15 to 1 shots, get away in front in the second, a five and a half furlong sprint for 3 year "old maidens, and ran one-two all the way. Borel was up on Nedda, which led Furze by less than half a length at the finish. Senator Warner, the favorite, ridden by the aprentice boy. Charbonneau. came from a long way back to be third. School BelU the second choice, was the victim of a very weak ride by Jockey Graham, who was pulling her up a good part of the journey, j .-/J Frank Flittner, favorite in the third race, won In a gallop. F. Wilson, the stable apprentice, rode the horse in faultless fashion, contenting himself with waiting In behind the pace with his mount In the early part and mak ing his move at the proper time in the stretch. Adirondack, the pace maker, was compelled to relinquish the lead near the paddock, but finished second, five lengxhs behind the winner. Foncasta ran third. Fury ran a poor race, which was foreshadowed by the betting, the horse receding from 2s to is. Elevation, third choice in the fourth at a mile and an eighth, jumped out in front right after the break and showed the way from wire to wire. It was his second victory In W. D. Ran dall's colors. Reggie Davis was in the saddle and gave the horse a perfect ride. Byronerdale was always in close, but unavailing in pursuit of the win ner and finished second. Hi Caul Cap .came from behind in the stretch and took third place from Corrigan, the favorite, by a head. Corrigan" could never get to the front, but finished close up. Tie others were beaten' off raacy lengths. : '•»; ,; '.' : *-;/ ; The good colt Blagg made It four straight end scored his seventh *wln of the season by taking the measure of F. Nugent and other clever sprinters in the fifth race, for which he was favorite. Jockey Graham rode him with good .judgment, taking off the sizzling pace set by Combury' ln the early part and deferring his move un til the stretch, where the colt galloped to the front and easily stood off F. Nugenfs challenge in the final drive. The fast clip at which Sandy sent Combury along in the early stages proved his undoing and Fair Fagot beat him for third place, so tired was he at the end. i Sir Brillar, Graham up, odds on choice in the closing race, made good in decisive style, running seven fur longs In the fast time of 1:26 1-6. Showing all the dash and speed of his best form. Sir Brillar forged into the lead soon after the break in spite of being off none too well, and, leaving hjs fieifi lengths to the rear, passed the judges* stand nearly three lengths in advance of Ethel Day, with which Sandy was in strenuous pursuit. Ora torlan, heavily played, could not even get the show, being beaten -out by Good Cheer, which ran closest to the leaders throughout, but was 10 lengths distant at the end. Gossip of the Track The ban against Jockey Gross, who was suspended on account of his fail ure to win with Escalante, which suf fered a head defeat by Phalanx while running as an odds on favorite May. 4, ■was lifted by the stewards of. the New California Jockey club yesterday so far as the horses of his employers, H. TV. Hoag & Co., are concerned. Esca lante has since started several ■: times and has failed to run any better for othtfr boys than he did for. Gross, For the present, at least. Gross will not be allowed to accept any mounts outside the Hoag & Soule stable. The boy Kives promise as a rider and probably wllltry his best to keep out of trouble In the future. . Jockey Hunter was before the stew ards yesteraay, but ; no official an nouncement concerning the case of the suspended rider was forthcoming be yond the, statement that £he Investiga tion was being- continued. in hope of landing blgjrame. » ; Jockey cT Ross, who Is in the - em ploy of Roy, Off utt, has been told to accept no mount* ;at Emeryville for the present. There Is no ruling against him, however. . * " *. ;,"-. It is the talk; at 'New York that Charles : G. Gates Is backing C E. Durnell in the project to get together a powerful racing stable in France. It is said that the horses will be raced 5n France during the sojourn of Gates in that country and will - then be brought over for a campaign on the American tracks. Smyth OLYMPIC CLUB OFFICERS DISCUSS NEW BUILDING Express the Belief That 'They Can Finance the Proposition , ..The directors of the Olympic club held a . protracted meeting « last night, at they discussed in all its' bearings the question of a new build ing, for, the lot on Post street. Henry A.Schulze. the ? architect who designed the sightly building for which plans were submitted, and a representative of* the ; .Thompson-Sterrett ; company, which cleared . the lot and Installed the bathing , system which will be , thrown open to the members of the club on June 1, were present. Secretary; John Elliott, speaking for the directors, said they thought they' saw their, way clear to build the pro posed six story building with Us gym-; naslum, -living rooms, dining room and' other comforts. It Is estimated that the six stories above the sidewalk ; would cost $450,000. This would be lr- : respective of the furnishings. The dl- ; rectors believe • there will be .no ne cessity for an assessment, but , if It be found necessary to levy one it will not. exceed $100. '•- , ■ ,• President Harrison,' who will not re- 1 tire from office until June 1, was pres-: ent at the meeting and Joined In thof discussion', of the club's affairs. The* regular; meeting, of the directors will be held on Friday night, when the building plans will be given further at tention. At -. this meeting, it is expect ed/directors will^ be., selected to suc ceed Kenneth Melrose and Max Rosen feld,'.who resigned recently. No haste : is. being shown in selecting a successor to Harrison, who has given so much at tention to the affairs of the club. PRIZE FIGHTING DOOMED IN THE CITY OF ANGELS Majority of.
