Saa £na£jjCß% NONUNION TELEGRAPHERS ARRIVE FROM THE EAST Number of Strike Breakers Will Sit at the Keys This Morning \^ GIVEN BIG BONUSES Several Chief '".Operators From Other Cities In cluded Among Them The first installment of strike break ers to take the places of the telegraph operators now on strike in this city reached San Francisco yesterday and will be put at work today in the main offices of the Postal and Western Union telegraph companies inthe ferry Lulld in* and in West Oakland. The ope rators are regular employes of the tele graph companies^ and have been drawn from the offices in eastern cities to fill the vacancies here until new trained men can be engaged to take up the work. • The Santa Fe and ' Southern Pacific overland trains arriving yesterday morning brought a number of skilled nonunion operators from Chicago, Cin cinnati, Omaha, Dcs Molnes, Kansas City and other places and more are ex pected to arrive within two or three days. . Five operators of the Postal company arrived yesterday and reported for duty at the ferry office. They said they had been sent "here for temporary work and would return to their regular posts as soon as new men were" found to take their places in the local office. In com ing west thei^ traveling expenses were paid and they were promised" their choice of railroad routes in returning east. GIVEX LARGE BONUSES. The strike, breakers are being given large bonuses Cer their work- here. Their regular salaries are continued and in addition they are gtven 30 cents an hour for all w.ork performed here and are allowed to put in as much time as they desire. Most of . the new comers have elected to take" 15 hour shifts, which make's it possible' for them to earn fi'om *.-2' ato $250 a month.
