CO - fc2 " Merger and Mohawk Dividends Voted by Directors Market Continues to Sag, Causing Drop in Two Days of 40 Cenfs in Leaders-Price ■ .. S~ ' — — " ; ♦— — ■ :: — ■— :—: — :—:: — : ~*Sv The anticipated dividend of 10 cents a share on 3,600.000 chares of Gold field Consolidated Mines was declared by the directors of the company/ at Gold field Monday, according- to promise. In addition to this a dividend of 50 cents a share was declared on 710,000 shares of Mohawk stock. The most .of tho shares of Mohawk, have been surren dered to the Goldfleld Consolidated Mines company on the terms ar ranged for when the merger was effected some, months ago: . There are about 5,000 shares of Mohawk that are outstanding and in the hands of per sons who have not transferred them. ' The fact that the dividends had been i declared at Goldfleld was well known in the stock boards yesterday, although neither board in Bush street had offi cial notice of the action of the Gold field Consolidated Mines directors up to the time of closing the board trans actions of yesterday. The movement of the merger stock continued to be downward, and as sharply as on Mon day. The opening was at $7.16, or IV* points lower than the closing price of Monday. Before the day was done Goldfieid Consolidated Mines shares were selling below the 87 mark,. at (6.95 and $6.97%. At the close the Quotations were $6.92^ bid and $6.95 asked, so the fall in two days, on the day of declaring the dividend and on the day after the dividend was actually ordered, amounted to 40 cents a share, which may be considered phenomenal considering the richness of the mines of the merger, and the conservative policy that has betn announced by the directors of the company, who cleared up all indebtedness and had a large surplus before they voted to pay divi dends. Various Processes The Round Mountain Nugget -. says that Round Mountain is a great placer camp and furnishes the following de tails: ' Beginning with Tom Wilson's feat of,, taking oot a little less than 550,000 in 60 days from Sunnyolde and Combination ground last summer and continuing to the present time,: dry washing and alniclng with every conceivable system and process has been in steady progress all over the. district, with varying success. The principal thing proved by all this prospecting -'is that la. great percentage of the surface dirt in the dis trict is of an auriferous nature and if; worked by the proper methods will pay handsome prontg. The Round Mountain ' hydraulic mining company has secured leases on all the water in the dis trict and Is going quietly ahead laying Its IS, 13 and 8 Inch pipe lines, which will convey water to the Intended places of operation; ■It .has feeured leases on a great deal .of the good placer ground of the district and expects to begin work within a few weeks. At the foot of Sphinx hill' the Round Mountain Comstock has sunk a shaft 2SO feet to bedrock and there encountered placer dirt of extraordinary value*. ~ It" i» drifting on the bedrock and finds "colors'* every where. The Round Mountain .Sphlux Extension and the Smoky. Valley and Round Mountain com panies haTe shafts down deep la the 'wash near the Comstock. Let any of these companies strike an exceptionally rich placer lead and the went end of the Round Mountain district will experi ence a period of placer mining . at depth which will put the camp on the mep for all time.
