Two fßots were noticeable — that the price of cutting was general and .that the number of shares Bold of any in dividual stock was comparatively small. The merger fell steadily after the first tinkle of the opening 1 gong in Bush street, from $5.80 down until it. touched tho lowest price in its history, which was $5.02^. Combination Fraction also had an uninterrupted downward course. Starting at 51 a share \u25a0 the drop ran down the gamut to 85c, at which figure the call board, session closed. In the informal' session of th« San Francisco stock and • exchange hoard there was a recovery of 7 points for Fraction, to 92c. Daisy came In for more flaggellation. It was hit hard and was forced down to 50c. The tables were turned on Mrs. Marie Cardlnell of 1523 Tenth avenue South in Police Judge Conlan's court yester day, when she " was arrested on com plaint of Henry Leroy, an aged French man, on a charge of felony embezzle ment. As stated in The Call yesterday, Le roy was 'arrested on complaint of O'Neill & Eber, jewelers, 1744 Fillmore street, on a charge of obtaining goods by false pretenses. On the representation that he had money on deposit in tlie Lon don; Paris and American bank, ho pur chased a diamond ring. valued at ?110 and a gold bracelet valued >kt $65, which he presented to Mrs.''.. Cardlnell In the store. It was found that he had no money In the bank, and repeat ed demands for payment of the account were unsuccessful. . A search warrant was obtained to recover possession of the ring and bracelet from Mrs. Cardinell Thurs day, but a return was made yesterday that the articles could not be found. Mrs. Cardlnell told the Judge conflict ing stories. She first said that her at torney had advised her not to give up the articles: then she said that Leroy had taken them from her trunk; which Leroy vehemently denied' Leroy said that he had made her the' presents-be cause she had been kind to him 'and his daughter, and Mrs. Cardlnell as serted that She had advanced him at different times f 100, as he led her to believe that he was wealthy, and that was why 6he had received : the . presents. She said she was a married woman, but her husband was in France. ". . : The Judge thought 'that Mrs. Cardl nell was not dealing fairly with ; the court, and suggested to Leroy that \he swear to a complaint charging her with embezzlement, which hhre r readily con sented to do. Mrs. Cardlnell whispered to a young girl who. was sitting behind, her to hurry home and get everything out of the way. After Leroy had sworn to the complaint Mrs. Cardlnell was booked at the city prison. j SECOND RAIN OF SEASON LAYS DUST OF STREETS Drenching Yesterday Morning Is Followed by Fair Day, and Predic : , tions Are for More Sunshine The BGcond rain of the season fell In San Francisco yesterday morning: be tween 8 and 9 o'clock, laying: the dust of the streets and washing away the gray coating which haß covered : the walls In the burned district for months.
