Johnson of Boston, who for t everal years has been trying to re cover the treasure supposed to be on board the steamer Golden -Gate, has chartered ' the gasoline schooner Mon terey and will soon leave for the scene of the ancient wreck. The Golden Gate, carrying much gold from the placer mines of California, left here for New York more than 40 years ago, took fire at sea and was driven ashore on the Mexican coast, near Manzanillo. Johnson built a pier out to the wreck last year, but Just as he was ready to begin operations a storm swept* away the structure and much of his wreck- Ing gear. He Is going to have another try as soon as fine weather sets in. Saves Drovrnlnc Chinese ; Boatman Harry Johnson saved two Chinese from drowning early yester day morning at the shrimp station near >-Huhtera point One' of the celestials had walked Into the water from a rickety pier.
