12 BAPTISTS COMPLETE THEIR CONVENTION PLANS Fifty-ninth Annual Session Will Open at Petaluma- Next Tuesday GIVEN SPECIAL RATE Railroads Reduce the Fare for the Delegates and Their Friends Special h Leased Wire to The Call I PETALUMA, Oct. SI — The flfty r.lnth annual session of the General Baptist convention of California will open at the opera house here next "Tuesday . afternoon and continue for 10 days. Prominent pastor* of. the Baptist faith are expected to be present to address the convention during the session. Following the regular con vention the Baptist Young People Society of California will hold Its an nual meeting on Saturday, and on Sun day the Junior and intermediate rally will be held. Special transportation rates to Feta lutna have been secured lor those wish ing to attend the convention. The rate .will be one and a third of the regu lar fare, though separate tickets will have to be purchased by those coming from San Francisco. Certificates will be Issued at the San Francisoo end of the trip, which, when indorsed by the Jiev. C. W. Brinstad, will entitle th& holders to one-third fare back home. Lodging and breakfast will be 'pro vided free to the delegates and as far " p.s possible the came entertainment will be given those among the other visitors who attend the meeting and to those coming to the Brotherhood banquet on Friday. , evening and to the Young People's session on Saturday evening. Much attention will be given by the convention to educational subjects. Kducation in the church, college, semi nary and imiv<?rslty will be taken up and papers on that subject will be read- On Thursday evening the Rev. Edgar D. Burton. D. D.. of the University of Chicago, will address the convention. The Rev. Robert Newton Lynch, pas tor of the First Baptist church of Peta luma, will act as secretary of the con-, ivention. t . Oct. 31. — According to an opinion rendered by the attorneys for the local banks the Oroville levee bonds, voted at a recent election and purchased by the banks, which agreed to pay $66,286, are illegal because the election was held between "the hours of 6 a. m. and 5 p. m., instead of 6 a. m. to 6' p. ni. as required by an act passed hy the last legislature. This informa tion was received In a letter last even ing from Storeys, jGoodfellow &, Eels of San Francisco, who represent • the • banks. \u25a0 - City Attorney Gray admitted today .that this view was correct and that be was unacquainted with the new law. Another election will have to be held. The city trustees will meet tomorrow and take steps to call immediately an other bond election to provide funds to build the levees according to the modi fied plans. LUBIN IN CONFERENCE WITH THE PRESIDENT WASHINGTON', Oct. 31.— President Roosevelt conferred today with David I^ubin of California, Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Hayes and Director Xorth of the census bureau, regarding the first meeting of the international institution of agriculture to be held in Home next spring. This Institution, which is the con ception of Lubin, has been placed on a permanent foundation by treaty be tween leading nations. Its object is to obtain world crop statistics. The president discussed with.Lubin /the detailed plans for meeting and con sidering with Hayes and North the selection of five United States delegates, conversant with staple crops of this country.
