Rumors were cir culated that preparations had been made for a long fight between the own ers and the miners, but no authentic reports were received other than that the mine owners had served notice on the men that they considered the two year agreement void' by reason of the latest walkout. While generally the situation was re garded as unusually dark, in some quarters the opinion was expressed that the miners would reconsider their ac tion. While Goldfleld Consolidated sold up to $3.80 at the opening, 8 potnts above the closing figure of Tues day, the feeling of uncertainty was reflected in the decline of Daisy and Florence. - Daisy dropped several points, closing weak at 69 cents. Florence yielded to $2.85, but showed strength at that figure. Jumbo Extension sold down to 52, Blue Bull' to 15, Combination Frac tion changed hands at 77 and Silver Pick at 23. Tonopahs' held up under light trad ing. For Belmont 88 was offered, for Jim Butler 41. for Montana $1.35, for Tonopah Extension $1.10 and for Tono pah of Nevada tC.I2. In the othor districts the usual quiet prevailed. Nevada Hills showed im provement, changing hands at $3.20. Sales of Pitteburg Silver Peak were made at $1.10. UNABLE TO PAY LARGER ALIMONY TO HIS WIFE Oakland Carpenter Alleges Great Scarcity of Work in Opposi tion to Petition OAKLAND. Dec. 4. — William O. Mil ler claimed he was unable to pay his wife, Jennie K. Miller, more money while their suit for divorce was pend ing, according to an affidavit which he filed today opposing her petition to be allowed larger sums. He said he was out of work at his trade as carpenter and that 2.000 carpenters were out of work in this county. He offered to allow her to return to his house again if she cared to do so. ." '* v * Alice J. Barry has begun a suit for divorce based on extreme cruelty and failure .to provide against William E Barry. She said her health was se riously affected as the result of his al leged abuse. Divorce proceedings based on deser tion have been commenced by David _B. Weber against Hnirna J. Weber, and by Edna Trethewjfr against Charles F. Tretheway. A final decree of divorce was granted Rose Dahl from Fred Dahl. SOCIETY TO HOLD BAZAAR OAKLAND, Dec. 4.— The Ladles' Aid society <\t Fruitvale Presbyterian church will open a three days' bazaar Thursday, at which will be displayed many fancy articles, with a variety of edibles appropriate to the holiday sea son. The prisoner admitted that he shot the man he was accused of killing, but con tended it was In self-defense. Baldocchl had been working in the woods and went armed. Deputy Sheriff Ryan while hunting quail heard some one approach and stepped behind a tree. When Baldocchl came along with a sledge of wood the officer stepped out and covered him with a shotgun, de manding his surrender. \u25a0 Baldocchl gave up without a struggle. ' Officers in the north have been notified and will come here for their man. ALLEGED BURGLARS ARE RELEASED 'ON PROBATION James L.
