Goldfield Consoli dated and Florence responded sharply to the impetus given tfte market, and the former, opening at J3.75, closed at 53.55, while Florence went from $2.87 to $3.10. During the day's trading the merger stock went as high as 53.90 and the Florence stock went 2Vt points higher than its closing quotation. Since the financial stringency became felt In Nevada and particularly after the miners in Goldfield went on strike the stock market was quiet. The news of the ; / possible sending of federal troops from this city to Nevada and the declaration of a dividend by the Flor ence strengthened the market, and when it became known that troops were actually en route to the camp and would preserve peace there the mar ket rebounded. In the trading in" Goldfield Consoli dated yesterday about 30,000 shares of stock were sold and nearly 12,000 shares of Florence changed hands. Brokers agreed that the -day was the liveliest experienced within several weeks. Besides the activity in Florence and merger stock, Daisy received- at tention of the buyers, and went from CS to 75. FOUNDER OF CIRCUS ENDS HIS LIFE AT SANTA CRUZ Andrew C. Cozad Shoots Himself at the Home of His Brother LEAVES BRIEF, NOTE Was Known as Originator of Norris & Rowe Shows, ' Which He Sold SANTA CRUZ, Dec 6. — Andrew C. Cozad. known to the circus world as Andrew C. Norris, the originator of Norris and Rowe's circus, shot himself In the head shortly after 1 o'clock this afternoon in a bedroom in the home of his brother, Clarence L Norris. This morning Norris had met his mother, Mrs. Lucy Whitney, who was Just re turning from an extended visit with another son in Kansas City. On her arrival they went to the home of Clar ence Norris, which is but a short dis tance from the scene of the McLaugh lln tragedy a'few days ago, and had lunch. During the meal Andrew seemed to lose the good spirits he had mani fested on meeting his mother, and the others tried to cheer him up. After spending some time at the table he excused himself and went to his room upstairs. Shortly after leaving the room a muffled sound was heard, and Mrs. Clarence Norris exclaimed: "Andrew has shot himself!" She rushed to the room, where she was horrified to find the lifeless body of the man lying on the bed, while blood gushed from a gunshot wound in the head. A note \u25a0written with a lead pencil on the back of a chromo and addressed to . his mother was found, saying that he coufd not live under the strain any longer. Andrew Norris founded Norris & Rowe's circus in 18S2 and owing to poor health sold out to his brother and Mr. Rowe in 1898. The circus is now In winter quarters in Santa Cruz. JAPANESE CHURCH IN HEART OF VAGAVILLE Permission to Be Granted Despite the Protest of Residents SPECIAL DISPATCH TO THE CALL VALLEJO, Dec 6. — Despite the pro tests of nearly every white man and woman In Vacavllle, the Japanese resi dents of that city, backed by the Methodist foreign missionary board, will secure permission to erect a Jap anese Methodist church In the very heart of the finest residence section of the little fruit center. The site chosen is in elbow, reach of some of the finest homes in northern California and every effort has been made to keep the Jap anese in their own-part of the city. Offers to purchase the site of the proposed church and to give the orien tals in addition a site in their own sec tion of Vacavillb has been met with a steady refusal on their part. "What makes the feeling of the whites more bitter is the support given the Japanese by the Methodist church authorities.
