LEADING SHARES TOUCH LOW LEVEL General Heaviness Prevails in All Stocks Withfceeption of Daisy Waiting Policy of Merger Inter ests Supposed to Depress the Market General heaviness prevailed through out the list on the raining exchange yesterday, and with the exception of Daisy the leaders in the various dis tricts suffered losses. Daisy has been strongly supported during the recent slump and has resisted the downward tendency with great persistence. 11l the face of weakness all the way along the line, Daisy opened 7% points higher at $1,17%. It declined to $1.15 and see sawed between this figure and $1.12%. closing at the higher price. The stock was In good demand throughout the session, and was active from the open ing to the close. There was something of an increase In the volurr\o of trading in some of the leading issues, but despite this the entire tone of the market, was heavy, Goldfield Consolidated was weak at 'tne opening and gave way as the session progressed, closing at $4.52% after opening five numbers down at $4.65. At one time the stock touched $4.50/ but gained 2% points in the closing sales. Great Bend was steady at 34c, Florence was 10 points lower at $4.10. Fraction was fairly steady and closed at Sat urday's price of 68c. Sandstorm was weaker a,t 82c. Booth was a little higher at 27c St. Ives was down three points at 43c. Atlanta- was weaker at 30c, and'Kewanas slumped to 44c. The tendency in the Tonopahs was toward weakness. Tonopah of Nevada .was weaker at $5.07%. Montana was higher at $1.92. Midway was weaker at 76c. Belmont fell to $1.22%. Jim But ler was steady at 41c, Jn the Corn6tocks trading was active but prices lower. Ophir was backed down to $3.10, Mexican to $1.35, Sierra Nevada to 49c, and Union to the same figure. No complete explanation was offered for the slump, but It was freely stated that the waiting policy of the interests in control of the merger hadT caused a temporary depression throughout the list. The goods were shipped to Kragens, and just before the con signment , arrived in San Francisco the German firm learned' of the bankruptcy proceedings brought against the firm of Kragens. , Collector Stratton was ordered not to deliver the goods to Kragens, and before taking any action he wired to Washington for inetructionsr He- re ceived word from the customs officials in the capital city that the goods must be delivered to Kragens. Injunction proceedings were then brought, and. the case was . argued yesterday- ...before Judge Van Fleet. According to the rules of the 'customs „ department th« consignor, lost all control of the goods when they were shipped to Kragens. Judge Van Fleet said that there was nothing for the court to do but recog nize the rules of the customs depart ment and the petition for an injunction ; was denied. GOODS TO BE DELIVERED /j Nearly $60,000 worth of goods were ! shipped to Kragens by European firms, ' and the merchandise was held by Col lector Stratton in a bonded warehouse pending a decision of circuit court. All these goods will now -have to be delivered to the receiver appointed to take charge of the Hines' affairs. In all probability the European firms will get but a -few cents on the dollar in : payment foj- the merchandise. \ j The creditors of Kragene will hold j another meeting today or tomorrow to ' determine what further action will be taken toward adjusting the tangle into ; which - Gabriel Hines plunged the es tablishment. The committee .thaf-Tras i appointed to investigate the condition of the books and to determine the as sets has made a report in ,which\the : liabilities are estimated at $575,000 and the assets $425,000. GAINS CREDIT ABROAD The decision. as to the foreign goods will add about $60,000 to both the assets and theliabilities. ; The-liabili ties will still further be increased, it is believed, by fresh reports from eastern firms from which Hines boughtgoods on th© trip he made east after he had been, refused credit by local jobbers;- It seems that the farther away from home Hines got the better his credit was. The European "dealers, not being familiar with his Van, Ness avenue career, and dazzled by. the representations he made to the effect that he was one^of tha biggest merchants in the west, shipped their goods freely. They will now, ac- \ cording to Judge Van Fleet's decision, have to take chances with the local and eastern creditors, and be satisfied with" a small proportion of what Hines owes them.
