for Manila.
The Logan -was scheduled to sail
I^i«t Saturday, but the floods at Palisade
tnyon held the troops back. The de
layed troops were Batteries A and B,

i-ect^d to arrive here yesterday morning
.<t $ o'clock from Portland, hut the
«p»cifil train which was bringing them
««.s late, arriving at 11 o'clock. Two
hundred and fifty men were brought
across from Oakland and landed at the
foot of Market street; from which point
they marched up Embarcadero street
(o tne transport dock and immediately
boarded the Logan.
Their effects, which included the
general outfit of artillery forces, filled
tbree baggage cars These oars were
rashed <">n board a barge and "towed
•cross the bay, being landed alongside
the transport. A big gang of men
was waiting at the transport dock to
pack the effects vn board the vessel
and after two hours* hard work the
hundreds of cases were stowed away
in the holds of the vessel. .
Two officers were left behind, as the
trains they were on were held up, so
that they could not get through. These
officers were Lieutenant Colonel Medad
<*. Martin. V. S. A., retired, of Wash
ington. D. <'.. and Lieutenant J. Purvis,
Philippine Scouts.

Among those who registered at de
partment headquarters yesterday were:
Captain , -Harry S. Ilowland. Nineteenth
infantry, known as "Handsome Harry"
in army circles, who will sail today on
the steamship Mongolia for Manila,
and Lieutenant Ernest E. Roberts, me.J
k-al department, U. S. A., at the St.
Francis.
Sergeant Smith, One Hundred ana
Sixty-first company, coast artillery, sta

denly in this city Sunday night, will

the presidio today.
