BilWt, proprietor of a candy store at 2057 Mission street, "<£as awakened about 2 o'clock yesterday morning by the noise of a man walking in the hallway. He jumped out of bed and grappled with the burglar, who had entered the bedroom. The burglar pressed a revolver against Billet's head and Billet released his hold. The burglar ran out of the. rear door and escaped. Julius Erdraan of Fort Collins, Colo., was induced by two men to go to a room in the Hansford building. Thompson, 2213 Bush street, rented a room to a woman Tuesday night, and yesterday morning the woman stole $80 from the dining room and disappeared. Mrs. Joseph de Guire was moving: her furniture from 658 L,yon street to 785 Fifth avenue Tuesday afternoon, and a j thief stole from a closet her satchel, containing $75 and jewelry valued, at SUO. S. A. Phillips of the Pacific novelty company fainted at Fourth and Mission streets Tuesday afternoon and a thief stole his diamond stickpin. A tall blonde woman stole a, valuable hat Tuesday afternoon from the mil linery store of Mrs. A. Freeman, 33 Kddy street. Mrs. O. Johnson. 2223 Twenty-third street, reported to the police Tuesday night that her boy, William, 14 years of age, had left home that morning, taking with him her gold watch, valued at 150. About two hours later Police jnan P. J. Welch found William lying r>n the sidewalk at Twenty-third and Kansas streets in an intoxicated con dition. He said that Craby Mullln. who lives with his parents in Pan Jose ave nue, had induced him to steal his mothers watch and Mullln stole a bicycle from a lodger at his parents' homo. They were to sell the watch and bicycle, but managed to sell only the latter for $10 to a messenger boy. They were joined by four other boys and went tA Millbrae, where they bought two cases of beer from a saloon and drank it. They were, all drunk and lay on the grass along' the road, \u25a0when, William charges, Mullin stole his mother's watch from hfs pocket. Wil liam was booked for a public institu tion. VAN NESS THEATER MAY BE PART OF CITY HALL Old St. Ignatius Block Offered for a Site The present Van Ness theater build ing and the entire block bounded by Van Ness avenue. Hayes. Franklin and Grove streets was offered as a begin ning and a sitf for th^ temporary city hall to the city yesterday for $l! 000 a month. The block, was formerly the f=ite of St. Jgnatius church and college. The conditions attached to the offer were that the building should not be sublet or used for entertainment pur poses, that the lease should run three years, with a two year renewal clause, and that th** city might remove any buildings constructed standing at the expiration of the agreement.
