Valentine sent a communication in ref erence to the unionizing of the Bucks stove company. He suggested, that or ganized labor should do all in its power to increase the sale of the output of this company. Secretary-Treasurer Thomas F. Tracy of the union label section of the American federation of labor writes to the union, saying that £5 per cent of the tobacco used in this country was the product of the tobacco trupt. He appealed to all t>rade union ists to use only blue label tobacco. Business Agent John I. Nolan has been given a vacation on full pay. He was taken ill while up north recently, and it was deemed advisable by his physician for him to tak<* a prolonged rest. At the last meeting of gas and elec tric fixture hangers' union. President C. H. McConaughy was chosen mar shal and his aids arP Harry Hansen and L. C Grasser. The loral subscribed $100 to the metal workers on strike in Los Angolas and gave $50 to the Labor day committee. The committee appointed to pur chase the lot at Sixteenth and Capp streets, upon which a labor temple will be built, will not meet until after Labor day. After the big parade is a thing of the past the committee will take up the subject of financing the labor temple and push it rapidly. There will be a mass meeting in the Auditorium of the building trades coun cil next Sunday at 2 p. m. to review the causes which led to the strike of the 75.000 cloak makers in New York. Circulars are being sent to various la bor organizations to have representa tives at this meeting. Prominent speakers will address the gathering, among them H. Weinberg. organizer of the cloak makers' union of Phila delphia. At a recent meeting of varnishers* and polishers' union No. 134, R. The usual weekly Los Angeles assessment .was paid and $25 was donated to the commissary fund. Four candidates were obligated. After the business meeting a smoker and high jinks was held. The program was greally enjoyed. Members of upholsterers' union will not know definitely until Saturday what the employers will do about their de mand for increased pay. The men are all at work, but pty day will reveal the attitude of certain employers. The locaJ is backed In its contention for the increase of 50 cents a day by the international organization. Structural iron workers* union will give a. benefit Saturday evening in Saratoga hall. Valencia street near Duboce avenue, to aid a member who is losing his eyesight. A large number of tickets have been sold. A movement has been started by or ganized labor in Washington. D. C., to prevent the display of moving pictures depicting scenes of strikes and strike breakers. The Washington central la bor union at a recent meeting passed resolutions on the subject and the American federation of labor has been asked to take the 1 matter up. The reajwm for objecting to the pictures is that they may put the labor movement in a false position. Boiler makers' union Xo. 205 at the last meeting issued a warning to all members of the craft to remain away from southern California until the trouble in Lo»<Angeles is settled. It was- stated that the report that the Craig shipyard at Long Beach was fair to organized labor was without foun dation. Arrangements for the parade Labor day will be completed *at the next meeting. Harry Gildea was the recipient of a past president's badge. President Thomas Christol was elected marshal of Labor day parade by marble cutters' union Xo. 38.
