E: A. Trembly, Pacific coaft organ
izer and label promoter for the united
garment workers of America, is in the
city and purposes to make a protracted
stay. While in Portland Trembly did
much work for his organization. It is
sa.id that the Chinese make 75 to SO per
rent of the blue flannel shirts in this
city. To have this work put in the
hands of union people is one of the du
ties of the organizer. Other union la
hor abuses he will endeavor to cor
rect.
The conference between representa
tives of upholsterers' union Xo. 28 and
the employers Wednesday in reference
to the new wage scale came to no def
inite conclusions. The union was also
represented by the president and secre
tary of the labor council. The employ.
t« will meet again this week and
notify the union what will be done in
the premises. >i
There will he a special meeting of
the iron trades council tonight and all
delegates sre requested to attend. The
meeting will be held in the labor tem
ple.
Waiters' union Xo. 30 met Wednes
day night. A committee was appointed
to act in conjunction with the Asiatjc
exclusion league on matters pertaining
to immigration. The local voted $ICO
to the Los Angeles strikers arid $50 to
the culinary workers on strike in Spo
kane. A vote of thanks was extended
to Secretary Gallagher for his efforts
in settling the difficulty with the inter
national union. It was decided to take
$25 worth of tickets for Shell Mound
park. Labor day. The local's donkey,
which has done such good service In
unionizing houses, will have a place in
the great, parade Monday.. \u25a0:\u25a0/\u25a0
At the last meeting of building ma
terial teamsters' union Xo. 216 three
candidates were initiated and seven ap
plications received.* The usual dona
tion was made to the Los Angeles
strikers. Marshal Osborn wishes all
mem&ers to form in line promptly the
morning of Labor day. A special
meeting will be held tomorrow night,
at which final instructions to members
will be given. : :
Members of wood, wire and metal
lathers' union Xo. 65 will all turn out
in the Labor day parade with union
badges and caries. The line will tie
formed at Fifteenth and Mission
streets. Members are I requested to
take notice that there is a fine of $5

A special car will be chartered by
those delegates who will attend the
Dcs Moines convention of the brother
hood of carpenters and joiners of
America and the plumbers, whose in
ternational meets in St. Paul. The
special Mill go to Chicago, where the
delegations will separate. There wlil

Carpenters' unionXo. 1473 of Fruit
vale will dedicate its new hall in Fruit
vale avenue tomorrow evening. The
building cost $18,000. The main hall
is handsomely fitted up with all mod
ern improvements. Several labor lead
ers will go over from this city to at
tend the festivities.
Carpenters' union Xo." 7<lo7 < 10 of Long
Beach wl!i observe Labor day in a
novel manner. Its members have ten
dered their services to erect a church,
completing it in one day, for the East
Long Beach Christian church.
President Crowley was in the chair
at the last meeting of milk wagon
drivers' union JCo. 226. It was reported
t!mt the Ingleside dairy matter has
.been settled satisfactorily. All Labor
day arrangements are complete. About
70 members will be in line, .the remain
der of the members working. The
union; took up the question of aiding
the San Mateo teamsters and the dele
gates will make a report at the next
meeting of the joint council of team
sters. One candidate was obligated.
\u25a0J. J. McCormick has been chosen
marshal for Labor day by bridge and
structural iron worker^* union No. 7S;
Kis aids are William Herzog, George
Brown. Thomas Crowley and David
Fillipl. A fine of $5 will be Imposed
on all members not in the, parade. ' •

Berkeley Tennis Club
' Plans: Tournament
BERKELEY, Sept. L— Labor and Ad
mission days will be devoted to a tennis
tournament by the members of. the
Berkeley tennis club and the courts of
the organization in Hillegass avenue
will be the scene of many matches. A
progressive mixed doubles tournament
will be held Monday for, a' permanent
cup and much interest, is shown. At 2
o'clock that .day play will be com
menced for the championship of the
club and_the cup held by E. W. Mac-
SwaJn. ' The event will be continued
Friday, when the final match will be
completed. In charge of the tourna

Grammar School Boys Utterly
Rout Opponents From the
Crocker Classes %

Between 3.000 and 4,000 grammar
school pupils and their parents yester
day saw Hancock grammar school field
ball team utterly rout the team from
the Crocker grammar schooj 4>y 40 to
26 on the new .South side, playgrounds.
The board of education had. granted a
half holiday to the. -grammar ptlpils
and they turned out In numbers to wit
ness the game. • ..
For a first attempt the game was a
good one and Hancock, the winners,
showed far, greater knowledge of the
game than. did their opponents. The
last quarter of the game was the best
and the Hancock. boys seemed to. get
into their proper stride in this period.
The "kick passing" was. . particularly
well executed by the boys from Tele
graph hill and they had the Crocker
team guessing all through the quarter.
Both teams, however, tried too : much,
dribbling and ground kicking instead
of kicking up and trying to make high
marks ( S I :-:. : ;
One of the features of the game Is
the constant quick changing of the seat
of play. The ball travels: quickly- from
one end of the field to. the other" -and
the men are running in this game more
than in any other form of football.
Hancock scored five goals (30 points)
and 10 behinds (1 point each) to two
goals (12 points) and 14 behinds by the
Crocker 6chooL .
In the first quarter Referee Ward
bounced the ball- off and Crocker im
mediately took It Into Hancock terri
tory. The Hancock defense was good
and the play was quickly transferred
to the other end of the field. Play had
not been in progress more than five
minutes before Hancock had scored the
first point of the game by netting a
behind. Right after this Hancock
came back to the attack and scored a
goal. The play seesawed from one end
of the field to the other, the Hancock
team having slightly the better of the
all round play. At the end of this pe
riod of the game Hancock had regis
tered 21 points to only 3 behinds scored
by Crocker.
For the next two quarters the play
was not of an interesting nature, both
teams doing poor work and both
adding a few. points as the game pro
gressed. /
The final quarter was the best of the
whole game. Crocker had livened up
considerably, but the Hancock boys
were playing a wonderful game and all
the men showed great knowledge of
many of the finer points. For instance,
the "kick passing" was greatly im
proved over the earlier attempts. This
style of passing calls for great accu
racy in direction of the kicks, and on
many occasions the Hancock boys sent
the ball the full length of Jhe field by
chain kicks beautifully directed from
one to the other of their own side. In
this way the ball was taken into good
positions right in front of the goal and
goals registered from them. ;
This mode of attack gradually wore
down the Crocker defense and the Han
cock boys scored often. The Crocker
boys, however, rallied shortly before
the finish and scored a goal from i a
long pass kick by the center halfback.
It was a good piece of work, but it was
the last that was in the Crocker team.
Goals were scored for 'Hancock by
Plimlo 8. Ciscarra 1 and Garrlgan 1.
Wilson and Gold ing each scored a goal
for the Crocker team. ; . .
