LINER WILL BE HELD FOR PRINCE Chiyo Maru to Sail Two Days Late to Accomodate Im= perial Party N order that Prince Tsai Hsun, uncle of the emperor of China, who Is \ ak ing a flying visit to the United States in the in terests of the Chi nese nay y, may lose no time in starting his return journey the big trans-Pacific liner Chiyo Maru will be delayed two days awaiting the prince. The regu lar sailing date of the Chiyo Msru is tomorrow, but the officials of the company have switched the schedule to accommodate the Chinese imperial party, and the imer will clear for the orient Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock. While the Chiyo Maru is awaiting the coming of the prince the crew of the liner is busi)y engaged in making the steamer spick and span. Under the personal supervision of Port Stew ard James Glidden the big ship is being cleaned and polished from keel to the topmost deck. L,ife buoys, life boats and capstans have all been treatod to a now coat of naint. while the decks, housings and inside wood work have been cleaned and polished to the hisrhest degree, following the ir*»n*ral fumigation given the liner Saturday. When the Chiyo Maru with the prince aboard puts to sea Thursday the liner will carry with it the dis tinction of being the cleanest and trimmest ship that ever cleared from this port. The Chiyo Maru will carry one of the largest passenger lists that the .liner' has over taken out of this port. as- well as 2 lull cargo of general merchandise. Included in the 200 pas- B^njgere are 30 missionaries, bound for duty in Chinese and Japanese terri tory. Sammy Davison. the 3 year old son of the captain, caught his left hand in the cabin door and lost two of his fingers. The boy, who is the pride of the big ship, was given the best emergency treatment those on board could furnish. Outside of sev eral squalls such as are always en countered in a trip of long duration, the Alice Leigh had an uneventful voyage. Shrimp ri»he>m Catch Shark The Chinese shrimp fishers in the vicinity of McN'ear's point are encoun tering troubles other than those brought upon them by the nsli com rr.isioriers. Yesterday morning a big ground shark became tangled in the Fhrimp nets end before the 12 foot fish could be hauled in and killed it suc ceeded in destroying beyond repair two of the fishermen's nets. Th*> shark, however, was not a lone offender. A hungry sea lion also invaded the shrimp preserves and carried away an other net belonging to the Chinese. Between the fish commissioners, the shark and the sea lion the shrimp fish ers are facing a hard game when it comes to computing profits for the last week's work. Of a two ton shrimp catch hauled in yesterday the Chinese eJaim that but 10 pounds of small lish were taken in the nets. Water Front Soten The Pacific Coast steamship com pany s steamer Governor. The British steamer Meneric from Pisagua arrived off the heads yester day morning. John Hyslop, the veteran lookout .11 Point Lobos for the Mer chants' exchange, at the. request of Waterhouse & Co.. to whom the steam er is under charter, signaled the Me neric to proceed to Comox. After flashing the signal "thank you," the steamer proceeded on its way north. The schooner Honoipu, Captain Lan feMt, 29 days from Hana, came into port yesterday with a cargo of 15,287 bags of sugar consigned to Williams, Dimond & Co.' The Matson steamer Hilonian, Cap tain Frederickson, seven days from Hilo. arrived in port yesterday with 3 6/tOO bags of sugar and a small ship ment of bananas. The passenger list totaled four. The British steamer Spithead, Cap tain Tuckwell. left port yesterday with a general cargo of lumber, mer chandise and mail for Australia and Ne-.v Zealand ports. The 6teamer Xortti Fork was among the in coming lumber carriers today, having crossed in at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The Xorth Fork Is to load redwood lumber at the Arcata wharf. The schooner Sequoia was towed Into port this afternoon at 4 'o'clock by the tug . Hanger. The Sequoia if loading lumber at bay points. The Xorth Pacific steamship company's steam er Santa Clara arrived In this port this after noon at 4:.1o o'clock from San Francisco with freight, nmil and passengers. The Santa Clara will depart <m the return trip tomorrow after noon at 1 o'clock. Departing this morning at 7 o'clock from the Arcata wharf was ftie steamer Acme with a cargo of redwood lumber and a consignment of U. S. mail. The Norwegian tramp steamer Sark, arrived this afternoon to load redwood lumber for Aus tralia. The British tramp steamer Bankdale is due to arrive this week from Callao to load rough clear redwood lumber for Australian points. The steamer will make the trip under charter to W. R. Grace & Co. This makes the 'fourth vessel chartered to make a trip to this port for an off shore cargo, the others being the British steamer Iran and Xetherlee and the Norwegian steamer Sark.
