Birds , Rcoring'less than 88 points will not be considered. Thirty-three cupv have been offered, all of which will be suit ably inscribed. Harvey. a pioneer of the county, nar rowly escaped burning to death in his home at Igo yesterday morning. Har vey is 79 years old and almost helpless from rheumatism. He was alone at home and lying on the bed reading w!vn a guEt of wind blew the curtain over the lamp. The curtain was sqt aflre and be'ore Harvey could rise or summon help from the nearby neigh bors his beard was burned off on one *ide. his hair singed and hi had suf fered burns on the forehead and. hands. Anthony to withdraw his applica tion for a license in the Reyrnan build ing has resulted in residents of the vicinity retaining Attorney H. D. Greg ory to oppose the saloon. It is declared the question of legality of all licenses in Oroville will be at tacked if Anthony persists, It being contended that the city trustees have no authority to delegate to the city clerk the power of granting licenses. SAN JOAQUIN SEAL OFFICIALLY CHOSEN C. Townsend Brown Awarded First Prize by Stockton Commercial Club [Special Dispatch to The Call] STOCKTON,. Oct. '14. — The commer cial club adopted last night its "San Joaquin county. seal, accepting the de sign presented by C Townsend Brown of 322 Fourteenth ' street, San Fran cisco. Brown will receive the $300 cash prlze< offered by the club. Designs were submitted from all over the United States ahd X the committee worked for weeks in making its se lection. The selection was ratified last night by the club. The design selected is circular in shape. "Within an arch is a map of San Joaquin county show- Ing Stockton In the center, the Sierras in the background and the rivers and highways. Above the 'arch ' is a pic ture of an irrigation ditch, below is a wheat field, while on one Bide Is an orchard and on the other Is a vine yard. An Interurban train is also pic; tured.
