IIS WALLSTREET NEW YORK, Xov. o— The stock ; market demand, which it waS . hoped would be stimulated by the | parsing of the election, failed to \u25a0; materialize today and selling to take profits had to be done on a descending scale of prices. The amount of profit-taking sales was larpe and the effect on prices acute. Final declines reached from 3 to 3H points for leading stocks. A doubt took shape whether the demand for material for the rail roads would take on larpe pro portion, while the question of higher freight rates is still open. The problem of enlisting: capital for .such expenditures, even after allowing the 'rate Increases, took on more Importance, with a sur vey of the heavy requirements on world markets. Suggestions of possible relief for the local money market by gold imports from Paris received little countenance from - interna tional bankers, of the most prominent of them, newly arrived from a visit abroad, expressed his conviction that the price of capi tal ,was to remain higher and that corporations needing it would have, to recognize the condition by sell ing securities, even those running for a long time, at reasonably low figures. The taking of a strike vote by locomotive engineers of western railroads renewed attention to an other source of embarrassment confronting the railroads. The ex piration of t the term of agreements with railroad employees of va-. rious classes within the next month will precipitate tills subject into the field of active factors. Tho German * potash law was a specific rause for the weakness of the fertilizer stocks. The grant ing of higher freight charges in southwestern territory by the in terstate commerce commission was equally specific In strengthening the southern railway stocks. Call money went no higher than 43^ p er cent and yielded to be low 4 per cent, but the time money rates wer«» firmly held. The for eign exchange market was firmer at higher rates. Bonds were irreciular. Total sal«»s (par value). $2,137,000. T'nitPd States bonds ; were un changed on call. 1 NEW YORK. Xov. 9. — K. F. Hut ton & Co.'s wire says: With elec tion results the stock market to day was generally expected to do better, but the small professional contingent who hatl been follow ing the recent rise were-disap pointed. The security market had temporarily discounted these fa vorable events and was due, for a considerable setback, partially as a resulfof th*» monetary situa-v tion hut principally to await some thing more definite on the railway rate situation. We see nothing illogical in the decline in the mar ket today and expect somewhat lower prices before another up ward swing is inaugurated. E. V. Hutton A- Co. E. F. Hutton & Co., who were suspended from the New York stock exchrfntre May 26 for one year for technical infraction of the exchange rules on salaries'and "commissions, were yesterd.iv re instated to membership, which is ; a concession to the firm by the 1 exchange.
