BANKERS RELAX
CAUL FORCASH
NEW YORK. Xov. 11. — The fluc
tuation o* prices in today's stock
markef testified to the unsettled
opinions on the speculative out
look.- The rapid covering of short
contracts in yesterday's late rally
left the interest so much reduced
as to deprive the market today or
a potential support. The advances,
which were general at one time,
were concerted into small declines
at the close.
There was a derided easing: in the
tone of the money market, both
in call and time. The preliminary
estimates of the week's currency
movement showed a relaxation in
the interior demand on New York,
which promised relief from the
drain on that account. A more
effective influence on the pasinff
of the money market is the liqui
dation of stocks since election
day.
The special pressure against
New York Central made a bad im
pression on sentiment and helped
to force prices oarkward after the
advance. The weakness of, the
senior Vano>rbf!t Ptock was the
outgrowth of analysis of its rate
of net earnings compared with In
creased dividend requirements and
the belief that the necessity for
new financing confronts it to 'as
sure the continued progress of im-'
provements already under way.
The October agricultural exports
were- disappointing. While the
large total for October of last :«ear
was largely due to the heavy cot
ton export movement, the cotton
exports this year exceeded even
that extraordinary figure. Ex
ports of wheat for the last week
fell 797,244 bushels below the pre
ceding week and were 2.455.351
bushels below the figure for the
corresponding week of last year.
Bonds were irregular. Total
sales (par value). $1,330,000.
United, States bonds were . un
changed on call.
NEW YORK. Nov. 11. — E. F.
Hutton & Co.'s wire says: "The
stock market today was one
where professional transactions
predominated through the entire
session, though it was stated that
some fairly good buying occurred
in the leading issues on the. weak
spots of the day. We find little
change 4n the Wall street situa
tion to report.
"The recent rise -was checked on
the election news and a fair set
back has occurred. It seems prob
ble now that the market will be
kept with aJi uncertain tendency
for a while, facilitating the accu
mulation of stocks and the cre
ating of- another large short in
terest. The next rise in the mar
ket will be the discounting of in
creased freight rates.

Weekly Review of Trade
XEW YORK. Xov. 31.— R. G. Dun & Co.'r
weekly review of trade tomorrow will s«y:
"In It« bearing upon the future buying power
of the . the most- Important development
of the week is the official confirmation of the
harvesting of the biggest corn crop on record,
considerably over 3.000.000.000 bushels. The
government report of. cotton ginned Is also help
ful, indicating a crop well In excess of last
year.
"The business outlook, however. Is "doubtful,
and under conservative controlwlth the. volume
of transactions considerably below full capacity.
The financial situation continues to maintain. an
ascendancy over the commercial and while there
is no substantial recession of the more hopeful
sentiment recently established, financial condi
tions are not clearly denned.
"The passing of the congressional and state
elections removes one Important uncertainty, but
enough time has not elapsed in which to form a
complete Judgment as to the ultimate effect upon
trade Interests. Physical conditions which make
for continued national prosperity are nearly all
that could be desired. What is holding back the
full measure of business activity and profit
that Is a desired are perplexities of man's own
making, which spring- out of. the, conflicting in
terests of competing classes.
"It is the hope of rapidly getting rid of
most of the*p anxieties that is at the basis
of the recently developed optimism. There Is,
however, no vital change in actual conditions.
. "Iron and steel trade is waiting for the rail
roads to make their rail and other purchases,
while the railroads have been waiting for the
rate, question to be settled and the election
and financial uncertainties to b*> removed'
"The dry goods market is in a waiting condi
tion with the bulk of transactions for imme
diate requirements. Increasing consumption of
copper Is one of the hoppfnl features of the slt
nation aud the greater magnitude of export trade
is another. • .
. "Shoe conditions are most stable, but the.
volume of trade continues moderate. Sole leather
holfls firm in price with a steady demand, but
upper leathers, particularly grains and splits
are dull as ever."
Bradstreet' s tomorrow will say:
"Trade report* as a whole are" more uniformly
favorable than for some time. Distribution at
retail ha« qotte generally improved, largely
because of colder weather and the realization of
bumper corn and oat crops, though some parts
of the southwest and the south report that open
weather has deterred Improvement: However
the much better business in ''retail lines has
resulted in larger volume of Jobbing reorders,
particularly for seasonable dry goods, boots and
shoes and women's, wearing apparel. • Quiet con
tinues In the textile trades, and while the un
dercurrent Is .conservatively cheerful, there Is
no antlcipatlonj^f future business .in large vol
ume. Holiday goods are being shipped in large
volume and travwlingymen are sending in better
orders for spring." goods. - - . .. ,
"The large crops are taken. to augur lower
prices for .foodstuffs, but this Is not looked for
immediately and some products," notably eggs
and butter are high. At; the same time
collections have improved, but payments are not
yet-all that they should b P ..
operations show a little better
ment, some textile mills have resumed, but
affairs in the iron and steel trade have not aa
fnmed ojieh shape as to allow a clear prediction
regarding the future. While Rome- rail orders are
expected this month, the railways as a whole do
not give much promise of ordering heavily soon.
• A significant feature is that transactions
in wool for export . are profitable. This week
English. buyers purchased large. quantities in tb«
Boston . market. Eastern ijh°« manufacturers
are running two-thirds to three-fourths capacity."

Several weeks ago it was mentioned that an
informal organization of : oil consumers in Los
Angeles had been effected, the object being to
bring the producer and consumer together and
eliminate the middlemen. The organization has
now been Incorporated and placed on a more
effective working basis. Instead of. one organ
ization them are two. which are composed of
practically the same men and work as a wheel
within . a wheel. The Southern California oil
consumers' association is the name' of one or
ganization of $25,000. The natpe of the other
organisation is the Los Angeles oil consumers'
agency, which has a capitalization of $200.00 p.

CHICAGO BOARD OF TRADE
Future Gratn and Provisions
CHICAGO. Xov. 11. — An improved milling de
mand-had much to do with a strong upturn in
wheat the last hour of trading today. There
were also reports that a large percentage of
the seed planted in Kansas had failed to ger
minate. At the close prices ranged from I4C
higher to %c below last night. Corn finished \1
mhc down, oats off a sbado to W,c and provi
sions unchanged to a decline of 12i,c.
Irregular fluctuations were the rule In wheat a
good share of the time because of heavy selling
of the July option against purchases of May and
December. Shorts on the two last named months
covered a great deal, mainly on the advance, and
were severely punished for reckless selling, which
early in the session gave the market a hard
smash. A strong bull interest used the December
delivery as a lever In hoisting values near the
end of the day. having materially lightened the
option by liberal acquisitions during the morning.
Shortly before noon Minneapolis mills were re
ported an free buyers, and there came afterward
a dispatch assertingthat In Ford county. Kansas.
~o per cent of the planting had proved lifeless
The ensuing swell in the market here subsided
somewhat from the top figures reached, but the-
I closing tone was firm. May during the session
sold between 95Uc and eSvfcc. with the close at
96% c. a net gain of a shade.
High Argentine reports and Ideal weather
weakened corn. May fluctuated between -CXc

deal of wheat, mainly on the advance. The
downward course early ran for some time,
during which many longs who carried wheat
over night were forced to unload and there
was meanwhile reckless short (•ellinir at the de
cline. There was a great deal of commission
selling on the last advance, probably market-

but there were, light offerings oX cash corn in. the
sample market. The shipping call was good and
cash prices were on»-half to lo higher. Country
