Fremont high school of Mel rose are preparing to present a vaude ville show, the evening of Wednesday, November 23, in the school auditorium to secure funds for' the annual Christ mas Jinks. The jinks are participated in by students, teachers, parents and friends, refreshments prepared in the school cafeteria by the girls being served at the close of the festivities. Edward Kitto is managing and di recting the student vaudevillians, and rehearsals are being held nightly. The show promises' to be the best ever at tempted at the school. IS. — Resolutions condemning- the custom of the sopho more class of the University of Cali fornia in holding annual "beer busts" were adopted by the Alameda County Sunday School association in conven tion here today. BURGLARS BREAK INTO STORES IN CLAY STREET Thieves Obtain .Jewels From Montecito Avenue Home OAKLAND, Nov. 18. — Two Clay street stores, between Tenth and Eleventh, were entered last night by burglars, who carried away money and goods valued at $50. The thieves entered the Elliott grocery at 1012 Clay street first, prying open a rear window. They rifled the telephone coin. box arid the cash register, then broke through an iron grating into Walter Meese's hardware store. 1014 Clay street. W. E. Griffith's home, 57 Montecito avenue, was also broken into by burg lars, who got $45 worth of Jewels. Nothing was obtained by thieves who entered J. TV. McComb's dwelling, prying open a rear window. CITY CAN NOT COMPEL USE OF LARGE MAINS No Law Offers Course Against Water Company OAKLAND, Nov. 18.— City Attorney John W. Ftetson has Informed the city council that the municipality has no lawful way of compelling the water company to lay larger mains in dis tricts which lack flre protection be cause of the insufficient water supply. The city attorney's opinion was sought when the manufacturers along the tidal canal In East Oakland petitioned for hydrants. It was found that the mains were too small to supply hy drants and the council sought a method ofotJtalning larger pipes. IS. — The Little Workers, an auxiliary of the West Oakland home, met this afternoon to complete plans for their booth, which is to be one of the attractive features of the doll show. / This organization of young girls cares for the tiny babies of the home and accomplishes much good in a quiet, unassuming way. SALOON KEEPER TO REMOVE SPITE FENCE Counciltnen Settle a Dispute Between. Neighbors OAKLAND, Nov. 18. — Adam Kraft, a saloon keeper, erected a 12 foot .spite fence between his home and that of Mrs. L. E. White in Croxton avenue, near Richmond avenue, for which Mrs. White had him summoned before the lecense committee of the city council last night to explain why he should not lose his liquor license for his bar room in Park avenue, six miles from the homes and the spite fence. Kraft promised to cut the fence down to six feet in height before next Mon day. Mrs. White agreed to have covered several black drain pipes down the side of her house, to which Kraft had ob jected. BRRKELEY, Nov. 18.— The county records. of Santa Cruz show that Paul H. Hunt and Mrs. Florence 11. Brock, divorcee of this city, were married by Rev. A. Lyle de Jarnett June 29, 1909. thus ending the controversy : which ; has been waged by the girl's mother on the one side and Mrs. Hunt on the other. Mrs. Clark nsserted that her daughter was Hunt's wife, while Mrs. Hunt de clared she was not and should know. The announcement of the wedding was made, by Mrs. Clark for family reasons and . the denouement did not •meet with the approval of her daugh ter.. She left the Clark home in Stuart street and has not as yet returned. Her sister, Miss Grace Clark,' said that she did not know when- she would re turn. Mrs. Hunt was a bride at' 17 and a divorcee at 20. She is now a wife again at 22. Her husband is expected to come here for the Christmas holi days from' Mexico, where he is pursu ing his profession as a' mining ' en gineer.
