TCU i PRICES STILL; ARE QOIIVO UP NEW TORK, Nov. 19.— The stock market regained its professional lirEitationf today, but prices con tinued to advance. Union Pacific and United States steel practically rose to the highest prices on the present movement, and Reading: was not far below. The Indica tions of easing money conditions made a sustaining influence. Tho current of the money movement toward New York was regarded as ending the crop moving \rcquirc ments of the Interior and fore shadowing a recuperation of re serve holdings of the New York banks. The private discount rate re ceded in London. The political program in Great Britain by pro viding for budget action before the dissolution of parliament takes from the situation the fac tor which proved disturbing In last year's crisis. . - The feature of the bank state ment was tho heavy transfer of deposits and loans from trust companies to clearing house banks, occasioned by the - decline in Interest rates during the week. There were decreases in .the week ly averages of "other banks and trust companies" of $19,566,800 in deposits. $18,785,500 in loans and 51.690.500 in cash. This transfer seems to have neutralized in the actual showing of the clearing house banks, the actual increase of more than $9,000,000. compar ing with preliminary estimates of only $2,000,000. Bonds were easy; total sales, par value, $1,260,000. United States bonds are un changed "on call from last week. NEW YORK. Xov. 19.— E. F. Hutton & Co.'s wire says: "The stock market today has assumed a more decided tendency than for somo time. The underlying con ditions of the market, which we have tried to emphasize in our previous market letters, could not well be These factors, ndded to expected favorable ac tion by the interstate commerce commission in the matter of rail •Toad rates, can not otherwise be construed but as. bullish factors. A dormant short interest Is an other factor contributing. Be liev« market will gradually but surely improve and look to see the standard rails* sell considerably higher." This is an Increase of $10,202,000 in the proportionate cash reserve as compared with last week. \ The Financier will say: "An unexpected cash gain-of $f»,033,600 or at least tliree times in excess of what the known figures earlier iv the week indicated, brought about an increase in the surplus reserve in the Xew York banks of $7,141,700, ' according to the statement of actual condition issued Saturday. As a result the surplus above the. 25 per cent reserve minimum is now $19,701,675. "This Is the largest surplus recorded since the middle of September, 'when the banks were pre paring to meet crop requirements, and is more than twice as large as the surplus for the cor responding date a year ago. Sloans for last werk Ehowed a email reduction in the actual state ment of $622,700. although in the statement of averages issued Saturday the loan shrinkage is given at $11,802,100. "This probably reflects operations noted In the previous actual statement. "At 8113- rate the surplus figured on averages stands at $17,773,325, or about two millions be low the r«l surplus reported by the banks on Saturday. It is rather interesting to' note that the shrinkage In loans was not confined to the clearing house banks, but extended to the trust companies and outside institutions, which, ac cording to the statement Issued Saturday, re ported a decrease of $15.755.500 in loans and a decrease of a little less amount in deposits, together with a shrinkage -of one and a half millions in cash. , ; "The statement takon as a whole foreshadows an cxtremeiy comfortable position In the money market. "- Merchants' Exchange Amtesument At the time of the fire the Merchants' ex change of. San Francisco bad: to borrow $171,000 in excess of the insurance money to reconstruct the^ building. Upon this indebtedness an minimi amount of $25,000 has to be paid. This year $10,000 has alrenfly been paid, but in order 'to meet the remaining $15,000. due January I*. an assessment of $100 on each member of the cor poration was levied at a meeting of the board of directors on Xovember 16. \ This assessment was recommended by Presi dent James K'olph Jr., in his annual address, and adopted by the committee. It will put the ex change in first rate financial shape. Bank ClcaringM San Francisco bank clearings last week were (31,825,655, against $48,020,947 for the same week last year, an increase of $3,004,705, or S.I per cent. . Loans. F. Hutton & Co.'s wire Kays: The market has been about a* j strong today as it was weak yesterday. Argcn- j tine crop news, has been a factor. There, is a curious discrepancy in the new*. That coming direct from Buenns Aires tells of losses to th» i crop In southern Buenos Aires province from h«t ; winds, while Broomhall's Buenos Aires ngent cables Liverpool that the jnarket at Bnenos Aires closed higher on fears 'of a fr^st. Tcere has been . a great deal of covering of short wheat here by the sellers of yesterday. «nd also a great deal of buying by the larger local spec ulators. There has also been a better demand for December wheat from el*»vatr»r people. w',io appear disposed to change at a narrowing differ ence today. There has been a little Improve ment here in demand for cash wheat. A local cash wheat man also sold out two cargoes of Manitoba wheat bought some time since nt lower prices. European markets are generally lower. Liverpool is an exception, averaging t« clo^e steady. Xorthwest markets were weak early, ranging .higher later. L«>cal cash sales were 32.000 bushels Xo. 2 red winter. Corn — The market has ranged from- yester day's closing prices downward by about 3&Q%e early, recovering with wheat later, but making DO noteworthy gain. Receivers say that the . movement of new corn. now from a greater part! of this state will only r be limited by the car f-upply available. One road sent, out notices ad vising immediate shipments while it has car-* available and the weather is good. Cash demand has been slack. Sales were 00.000* bushels. The week's receipts here were a trifle less thaa the shipumts. Oats — Have followed the changes In corn, be ing helped to* a recovery later by the gains in wheat. Trade was not large. The week's re ceipts were a littlf larger than the shipments. Shipping sales were 155,000 bushels. ' t »ft York Grain Market XEW TORK.
