The Sage 11 at noon blew the tools out . of the well. - smashed the crown block and spouted oil 300 feet above' the top of the derrick. There was a great amount of gas. and the volume of : oil was much less than it appeared fn>m a distance. Yesterday's performance of the Maricopa Thirty-six was a little less spectacular than that of the Sage 11. but otherwise the effect was similar. - The well Is 1,907' feet deep and has just " entered .the oil Rand from ' which the gas and. oil -come. It is the intention of Superintendent- Tryon, how ever, to go through this sand and. tap the .Lake view strata. The Sage 11 and the Maricopa Thirty-six: are about 1.400 feet apart, and when both were ina ction things looked quite lively In North Sunset. That there Is • more, activity In the Little Sespe district, Ventura county, at present thats nt any time since the ; first operations were started over 20 years api is the opinion of old timers in the field. During: the last few months many new rigs have been installed. ."Most of these new operations are bclnK conducted in the northern end of the field, above the old wells of the Union oft company. Geological . condi tions' in this locality are identical with those of- the :lower or- older portion of the district, and ■'. there is ; therefore . every reason to ' believe that -an extension of the field In the north ern direction* will result in 'the development of oil in the' same quantities, and of the same quality as that produced In the Tar creek region and farther down toward the Big Sespe creek. Work Is being ' done, to control the Midway .'Premier's big well by heavy- gates capable, of sustaining ■ a pressure, of 1.000 pounds- to- the square inch, thnt . have ' been ■ secured ■' from tlie Standard, and an effort will be made to attach them to the casing. ■ ': ;■■ ■-.Tim ' gusher is ; producing? by latest reports about 15,000 barrels. of oil daily.' During the time the well was sanded up tanks were erected for: settling the oil,: and the Standard's pumps are '. now connected with these - tanks and are handling about 10.000 to 12.000 barrels. Nearly nil the oil is being saved.- hut some further ■ economy will be possible when ■ the new srates : are in place. SAX FRANCISCO STOCK EXCHAXRE i Bid. Ask. l ' Bid.
