The erection of a five story reinforced concrete block at the southeast corner of Broadway and Nineteenth street, on which work will begin next week, ■will extend the business district one and a half blocks further north. pment of upper Broadway has Leon aided materially i elimination of the small wooden he older period of th< and the erection of modern structures. The frontage values along Broadway north of Telegraph avenue Jui have been low, hut the improvement!' begun and contemplated will cai i Increase in values. Bc'i electric -tern, the proposed im; of the property on the southeast cornet and Nineteenth • ninp of Jefferson and • Pan Pahln ave nue will contribute to the improvement of this thoroughfare. PAYMENT ON CHURCH The second Installment of $75,000 was paid this week on the First Meth odist church property at th« southeast corner of Fourteenth and Clay streets, purchased a short time ago by the Lay mance real estate company for a syn dicate of Oakland and outside capi talists for $250,000. A deposit of 125,000 had already been "paid and the re mainder will "become due: when the church trustees are ready to give pos session to the syndicate. .. Another-business block is about to be erected in/ 1 Twelfth street east of Broadway, j A two story structure will be erectedin the north side of Twelfth street. 112:6 feet 1 east from Madison. This will carry the business quarters in Twelfth street another step east ward and within a block and a half of I ;il]'.!!. the western boundary of the Lake Merritt park district. LOW miCE FOR LAXD Within the last few weeks a lot 23 by 100 feet in the south side of Fourth street, 75 feet east of Harrison, was sold for 16,000. ' This shows, that prop erty in that section is held at $250 a front foot, which ia a low price for a prospective warehouse and wholesale business district Plans have been completed for the construction of a four story and mez zanine floor and basement brick and steel business block, 50 by 100 feet, in Fourteenth street, adjoining the Metho dist church site. < A. D. Wilson, vice president of the Security bank and trust company, is the owner. MOXEV MARKET ACTIVE George W. Austin said: No one seems to hare made Ills plans for building during the rainy weather, hut wlioa the sun shines every one licpUis operations at the same time. The contractors and dealers In build ing supplies hare more wort than they can at tend to. A heavy demand for money has been one of the results, and the real estate brokers are (supplying many loans that the tmnks can not i take care of. The immense amount of building in Oakland at present, and the money that this ! and other offices are lending are facts little ap preciated. I have compiled a resume that will prove interesting.
