RESLEURE, CRACK SWIMMER, COMING One Legged Marvel, Rival of Line Johnson, to Re turn From Europe WILLIAM UNMACK Jim Resleure. the speedy Olympic club swimmer, has notified the club that he will return from Europe within the next two months and is anxious to resume his position on the winged "'O" swimming team. Resleure has the misfortune to be minus one of his legs, but that has made little difference to him as a swimmer. During his membership in the Olympic club he proved himself to be one nf the fastest quarter-milere on the coast. Last May Resleure competed against the other one legged marvel, l>l nc Johnson of the T. M- C. A. team, in a special race for a position on the American (earn to nirlrn at the Stock holm Olympiad, but owing to tb« poor facilities made at the ends of the tank for turning purposes the time es tablished 1n the 220 yard race did not warrant the Olympic committee se lecting either Resleure or Johnson as a member of the team. RIVALRY IS KEEN Tn that rac* Resleure defeated John pon and there alwaj-s has been con siderable rivalry between the two crip. pN=d lads. Each has- considerable re spect for the abtllty of the other, and on Resleure's return there are sure to be some wonderful races when the two meet in open competition. After the Olympic trials Resleure went to Europe to # contlnue his studies and entered the University of Leipzig. He took credentials there from the University of California, where he studied for some years. While at the university across the bay he made a name for himself in blue and gold swimming circles, and through his ef forts a strong swimming team "was organized and the Strawberry canyon pool wa* kept busy continually. CHOIPIONSHIP NKXT MONTH The Olympic rhib Intends to hold a special <"lub swimming championship meet next month to determine the titles for the various distances within the club Itself. The meet will be open to Olympic club members only and each race will be for the championship of the club in that event. John Hammersmith also is contem plating one of the "good old fashioned ladies' nights," and it is possible that the swimming championships may be made part of the proceedings of that night. The ewimmlng championships will Include the full program of events. From the 50 yards up to the half mile all will be arranged, and it is possible that special back stroke and breast stroke races will b« on the program. Feb. 19.—Official permission has been granted for the naval academy to enter crews in the American Henley race at Philadelphia on May 31. and, unless something inter venes, the academy will be represented by a first, second and fourth class eight and a four. Tt is also announced that the University of Pennsylvania will send its varsity and freshmen eights to Annapolis on May 24 to pull against the first and the fourth class eights of ths academy. Harry Krause Signs Up With the Beavers (Special Dispatch to The Cell) PORTLAND, Feb. 19.—Harry Krause, the noted southpaw pitcher, has been signed up by Manager Walter McCredie of the Beavers and will Join the eiub at the training camp next week. Mc- Credie purchased Krause from Toledo, where he was a sensation last season. The left hander is a product of the San Francisco sand lots and for two seasons was a winner with the Phila delphia Americans. His arm rs said to be in good shape after a long rest and McCredie counts upon him as a winning pitcher. The signing of Krause com pletes the Beavers' pitching staff, which on paper looks to be one of the strongest in the league.
