THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1913 RUSSIAN WHEAT NOW OF INTEREST Supply Uncertain, With Wide Difference in Expert Estimates CHICAGO, Nov. 28.—The Liverpool market yesterday had a weak tone, with Argentine news considered as rather more favorable, as the close was %c to %o lower. Corn was %c to %c lower. A wheat bull says the surpluses of Canada and the United States are be ing swiftly distributed, and another 60 days will mark a remarkable change in the domestic supply situa tion. That lonesome bear ilgure sit ting on the wheat safety valve is Rus slon. Her supply is a guess. Fantas tic visions of a 225.000,000 bushel sur plus are forwarded by Rome, but Liv erpool houses with correspondence tentacles in the Russian black soil belt say 150,000,000 busheU at the outside. The 1913-14 wheat consumptive pace makes one gasp when he thinks of the next general North American wheat failure and the associating ascending markets. BROOMHALL'S GBAIN CABLES LIVERPOOL.. Nov. 28.—There was free real ising here yesterday, with wheat prices at the close showing a decline of %<&% d, with the principal weakness in December. The favor able reports from Argentina and the quieter cash de maud were tbe principal factors. Today's niarke : The closing weakness in Winnipeg was oflset here by our agent's re porting unsettled condtions in Argentina and prices at the opening were V4®% up from yesterday. Predictions are for light world's shipments aud spot markets are firm, with a good demand. Overnight offers from Winnipeg were lower and a private cable received from Argentina to a prominent house here states that the weather is generally tine and traders who purchased early turned cells, which resulted In a decline from the opening. At 1:30 p. m. the market was % higher to H lower than yesterday and Uj lower than Wednesday. Corn yesterday closed %@'2 lower in sym pathy with wheat and large Danublan offers. Today's market: Corn opened % higher and later further advanced VA®% higher than yes terday in tbe light Argentine shipments, with nothing to the United Kingdom aud higher clearances for America, with America buying Plate here. Following the opening there was further liquidation with a decline of %@% on fears of very heavy tenders on Monday. At 1:30 p. m.. the market was %(!£% higher than yesterday and lower than Wednesday. There have been sales at Liverpool and Belfast of Plate corn for shipment to Halifax and St. John. Buenos Aires—Wheat yesterday closed irreg ular, with near months up % ami distant übwn %. Corn closed unchanged to Vs higher. Argentine slilpmeuts: Wheat—This week. 440,000: last Week, 386,000; last rear. 872.000. Corn—This week. 1.114.000: last week, 1,828. --000: last year. 3.545,000. BANKERS FORESEE NEW PROSPERITY Demand Abroad for American Securities Will Induce Great Activity NEW YORK, Nov. 28.—The extraor dinary showing in the foreign trade statement for October has given new visions of prosperity to prominent Wall street interests. A banker who occupies a very high place in the financial community became almost enthusiastic when discussing the mat ter, and it was evident that he looked forward to a time when Europe would become a buyer of American securi ties on a large scale. His view on the subject in part follows: "I am astonished at the magnitude of the excess of exports over imports for the first month in which the new tariff bill was in effect. The iigures are so stupendous that they almost stagger the imagination. To me they afford the greatest gratification, for I must confess that I did not expect anything of the kind. If the testi mony of further months corroborates that of October, the country will have excellent reason for felicitation and no one shall be more ready than I to admit that the tari ffsubject has been disposed of satisfactorily. "Europe has sold us a great vol ume of securities in the last year, and its investments in Americans are now much under the normal. Should the foreigners become buyers of American securities on a large scale we shall enjoy a period of pronounced activity jn our markets. They are buying our goods in great quantity, the record breaking excess of exports over im ports for October indicating that we shall soon build up a real credit bal ance; and, therefore, if the foreigners take our goods and also our securi ties, there will be no room for pessi mism in American business circles." j Local Oil Quotations \ SALES NOVEMBER 28 900 Monte Crlsto ..; 1.00 Bid.
