Ira Spangler, of Del Norte, is staying here with Royal Hubbell for his health, he being the victim of inflammatory rheumatism. Mr. and Mrs. John T. McNeely, of Cripple Creek, are visiting their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bingley, on Lincoln Park for a week or two. S. H. Marteeny, former resident of Lincoln Park, who moved his family to St. John, Kansas, a few months ago, died of consumption, and was buried Saturday. Miss Mary F. Hasbrouck, sister of J. E. of the First Nation al bank in this city, after an extend ed visit with her brother, left Tues day morning for her home in Syracuse, New York. Miss Hasbrouck will spend a few days with friends in Kansas City on her homeward trip. The purchaser is Mrs. Catharine B. Mercur, who lately came to Canon City from Canandaigua, New York. Most of the household < ffects go with the house. The consideration was $3,350. A. Page is getting some very ex cellent returns from his mining prop erty at Crestone. A recent test of a sample run of the vein showed gold values as follows, S4O and S2B. The claims are located in a rich belt, and the chances are that Mr. Page will yet realize something substantial out of the property. Hon. A. C. Rankin addressed the women of the city at the M. E. churcrh Saturday afternoon. The membership of the W. C. T. U. w*s raised from forty to over eighty, and there was a committee of twelve appointed to canvass the town for more members. Mr. Rankin will give his last address at this place tonight. At the caucus held in the town hall in South Canon last Saturday evening the following officers were nominated: Mayor, Geo. F. Mcßay; aldermen first ward, T. H. Robbins; second ward, L. D. Elliott; third ward, Z. R. Broughton; police magistrate, Thos. Prescott; committee to All vacancies, Geo. E. Colgate, Win. J. Davis and J. R. Storm. The missionary society of the First Presbyterian church have arranged for a union meeting in the church, Saturday afternoon at 2:30, to which all ladies are invited. Nothing since the World’s Fair, at Chicago, in 1893, has elicited the widespread interest that is manifest, all over the world, in the 1 an-Amer ican Exposition, which is to be held in Buffalo, from May Ist to November Ist, 1901. The purpose of the Exposition is to illustrate the progress of the coun tries of the Western Hemisphere during a century of wonderful achievements, and to bring together into closer relationship the people composing the many states, terri tories and countries of the three Americas. Acting under proper authority, the president of the United States has invited all the Republics and Colonies of the Amer ican Hemisphere to join in commem orating the close of th* Nineteenth and beginning of the Twentieth Cen tury, by holding this International Exposition, on the Niagara Frontier. For this important event, the Nickle Plate road has issued an at tractive, descriptive folder pamphlet, elaborately illustrating the Pan- American Exposition, the buildings and grounds. The body was brought to Canon City on Friday for interment and the Modern Wood men conducted the burial services. Deceased was a brother-in-law of William Edward* of Fruitmere. The Friends in Council. The Friends in Council met at the A. 0. U. W. hall with tweniy-two members and seven guests present. Mrs. Lewis led the lesson and Mrs. Harding read a short paper “Condi tion of the Christians.” Mr. Ellard then talked to the ladies and read some of his poems in a very enter taining manner. Another New Business Block. We learn that Mr. John Witcher has determined to erect a new busi ness block on Main street, on the lot just east of the two story brick oc cupied by Mrs. Payton’s millinery par lors. The new structure will also be two stories and will be fitted up in modern style. The contracts for the new work have all been let and work will be commenced in a short time. Contractor Coon returned from Cripple Creek a few days ago and expects soon to begin work on his new residence on North Ninth Btreet Charles D. DeWolfe, business manager of Blanche Walsh, was in Canon City Tuesday making the an nouncement of and completing ar rangements for an excursion to Pu eblo on Wednesday, March 27. When Miss Walsh appeared in Pu eblo last season many of the local people took advantage of the oppor tunity to see America’s foremost emotional actress The excursion arranged by the D. & R. G. people at that time proved so popular that the experiment will be repeated next week. The rate for the round trip will be sl. The special train will ar rive in Pueblo in time for the per formance, and will return after the performance is over. The exact time of departure will be announced later. Tickets for the performance will be on sale in Canon City at Peabody's drug store. For further information inquire of the agent at the D. & R. G. depot. Miss Walsh is appearing this season in a sumptuous production of “More Than Queen.” It is the most ambi tious effort of her stage career.
