FRED USEY BACK FROM
THREE MONTHS TRIP EAST
Fred Usey has returned to Canon
City from a three months eastern
visit, a considerable portion of which
was spent at his old home in Indian
apolis, and he is again the engineer in
charge of Denver and Rio Grand#
train No. 10, a position he has held for
many years. Mr. Usey is one of the
oldest engineers in the United States
in point of aervloe and has been with
the Denver and Rio Grande company
for a quarter of a century. He is fh
filiar with every foot of the Rio
Grande track from Denver to Ogden
and is, probably, to more people than
anybody else in the company’s em
ploy. Mr. Usey was at one time fore
man of the “Nlckle Plate" company’s
roundhouse at Indianapolis.

some time past he has been engaged
in evangelistic work, in which he has
been very successful. It is not known
whether Rev. Wilkinson will accept
the call tendered him by the church
here or not, and it will probably be a
week or ten days before anything def
inite can be learned upon that point.
He is recommended as a scholarly,
energetic young man and his coming
to Canon City would materially
strengthen the church in this com
munity.
LAST BAND CONCERT OF
SEASON THURSDAY NIGHT
The concluding number of the open
air concerts by the Canon City Mili
tary band for the current season clos
ed Thursday night by the rendition of
a special program at the City park. In
spite of the chilliness of the atmos
phere there was several hundred peo
ple present and the music was g reat
ly enjoyed. These concerts have been
an appreciated attraction during the
summer months if the large crowds
which have attended them may be
taken as an indication of their popu
larity. The Canon City Military band
Is an organization of which its friends
are proud and Its concerts have done
much to encourage the public taste
for high class music. The abandon
ment of these open air concerts will
be very generally regretted.
