He got la on the ground floor of Calu met A Heels when that greet copper producer was first discovered, and made a fortune. Then Jits health foiled. The west will never be happy until it gets the storage in transit privi lege aa an adjunct in working off Its rapidly increasing crops of apple*. Tbe absolute lack of Intelligent distri bution comes about through tbe rigid rules of railroads regarding freight rates on box apples; *1 the hundred is the rate on a carload of box apples whether shipped to Denver. Beaman lias notified the members of the board of directors of the Colorado State Fair associa tion In writing to meet In Pueblo at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, No vember Bth, to consider the protest of the Fremont county exhibitors at the recent state fair in relation to some of the awards made in the hor ticultural section. The premium for the best county display of fruit* at the state fair eras given to Delta county, despite the fact that a great many more individual prizes in department were given to Fremont county than to exhibitors from any other portion of Colorado. How It was'that Fremont county growers could win in Individual displays and yet lose in their collective capacity la a thing that paases comprehension. It Is logical to suppose that If they were successful in one instance they would be In the other, especially as Identically the same fruit was pass ed upon in both cases. Mr. Taylor, Mr. Troutman and oth er exhibitors in the horticultural sec tion at the state fslr pointed out the inconsistencies of the findings of the judges at the time and objected to Delta county being given the sweep stakes prise when the showing made by Its individual exhibitors was man festly Inferior to the displays made by orchardisis from this county. As no attention was made to their ob- ' Jections a formal protest was later aaterwd and was so strong is lb it islgs Slant of the lad gas amt M coaU not be easily Ignored.
