The éase grows out of strictures on the court made by Sen ator Patterson in hi§ two Dénver pa pers, the News and the Timés. The case was reached only abéut half an hour before court adjourned today and “most of that time was spent by the Senator in outlining thé case and ex plaining the fact that he was appear fng as his 6wn lawyer. When ‘““The Woman’s Club’” was an nounced, & spectator by my side re marked that ‘‘it must be a broom,” and he seemed much surprised when the raising of the curtain revealed an array of ladies with no club at all.‘ The young man, though, seemed to be ‘hit bard by somethi ng; perhapsit was ‘ one of Cupid’s darts that struck him. The blow seemed to be a hard ohé and | nay prove to be fatal later on, This “Club” plresented some of thé characteristics of the fair sex—they all talked at the samé timeé. Before get ting down' to business théy discussed what “‘she had freard”” and “what they had said,” and whén they procéeded to elect a president each one voted for herself. Noone was elected and the meeting ended in a'general stampeed, éach declaring that if she é¢ouldn’t be president shé wouldn’t be anything. 1t was all well done and the crowd laughed heartily. The next wasa presentation of thé old, old story ‘““A Courtship.” This same young man looked lohgingly on as thé affectionate couple plighted their troth, and he luoked as though he wondered if he might not thus be madé happy some of these days. The music a¥ well as' the acting in this piece was a treat t6 the audience. " . When the “Pink Tes' Party” was announced, this' aforesaid young mian remarked that he had never seen tea like that, and wantéd to know if it grew in Colorado. Thfs party revealéd the painful troth to a married 1ady that heér dedr husband was not as'faith ful as'she had thought bim to'be; that he was thinking foo miuch of a young widow, and when she gave him a piece of her mind he looked a¥ though he would Iike to emigrate.
